Lokar ACA-1805 Details
Lokar's Column Cable Shift Linkage is the ultimate answer to interference issues when you are unable to use factory or Lokar's hard column linkage. The cable allows you to route the cable around transmission, exhaust, cross-members and brake pedals. Our Exclusive Billet Aluminum Mounting Arm can be used on either side of the column. Specially extruded liner for extended life of the cable, and stainless inner wire measuring 6 feet in length. Ready-to-install hardware and brackets included in kit – no cutting or measuring – simply bolts on.
Note: For all GM Transmissions except Powerglide, 4L60E, 4L70E and newer transmissions. Does not fit Ford or Chrysler Transmissions.
Tech Tip: If you have a direct line of sight from column shift arm to transmission shift arm, we suggest using the adjustable column shift linkage # 491-1800. To determine column diameter, measure the lower outer column tube.

I was not able to downshift using the rod linkage.. I found the cable kit to be ideal to solve my problem. I was unable to drill the required holes in the extremely hard column shift lever and had to design a work around so I was able to bolt the "u" adapter directly to the existing hole in the shift leaver. This required some welding but it allowed me to finish the install.
