Hydraulic Clutch Actuation for your Classic Muscle Car, Hot Rod, or Race Car

For many enthusiasts, building a hot rod means it has to have three pedals and not two. A manual transmission is a MUST in their build. We certainly enjoy rowing through the gears ourselves and nothing makes that easier than a hydraulic clutch release bearing (or “throwout bearing” as some still call it). If you buy a new vehicle with a manual transmission today it will come with a hydraulic release bearing setup and that is for two primary reasons, pedal effort and packaging. These same two reasons are exactly why you should consider a Speedway Motors hydraulic release bearing kit for your manual transmission install. No longer do you have contemplate using bulky factory clutch release linkages that bind or take up valuable header and exhaust space and that require constant adjustment and maintenance, nor do you have to live with a heavy clutch pedal that has you reconsidering driving your pride and joy in any traffic. Using a hydraulic release bearing solves all these issues yet is easy to setup when installing your transmission.

Everything You Need in an Easy to Install Kit

Speedway Motors’ hydraulic release bearing kit provides everything you need to ditch your stock, tired mechanical linkage and go hydraulic at a great value. The kit features a new and improved release bearing designed by Speedway Motors’ Engineering Team with a CNC-machined housing, extended fluid line fittings, and a built-in fail-safe retainer. There is simply no way to over-extend this release bearing with this retainer design. Typically over-extending the release bearing means pulling the transmission and reassembling the separated bearing (not to mention cleaning up all that hydraulic fluid in the bellhousing!). Also included are a sufficient number of release bearing shims to correctly set your air gap between the bearing face and clutch, as well as both 5/16- and 3/8-inch anti-rotation studs to fit a wide variety of GM manual transmission applications.

Fits a Wide Variety of Popular GM Transmissions

This hydraulic bearing kit will fit most Chevrolet, BOP, and GMC manual 3- and 4-speed transmissions, such as the Muncie family of 4-speeds, Borg Warner T10 and Super T10 4-speeds, Saginaw 3- and 4-speeds, and even the GM-spec Tremec TKO-500 and 600 5-speeds when using a stock-style 10-1/2- or 11-inch diaphragm clutch. Essentially any GM transmission with a 1-3/8-inch OD bearing collar. The Speedway Motors hydraulic release bearing ships configured with -4 AN fluid line adapters and a standard 1/4-28 thread bleeder screw for in bellhousing bleeding. This can be upgraded easily to an external bleeder setup using Speedway Motors AN hose and fitting kit, PN 91025617. Most applications will work exceptionally well with a 3/4-inch bore master cylinder, such as Speedway Motors PN 91025680. Life saver

Works great with my OEM style of racing clutch. The shims that are included are a life saver. Easy to install. Only two cons. First off the screw in stud was the wrong thread count. Had to buy a ball stud and weld an extension onto it. Secondly, you cannot bleed these outside of the bell housing. This must be done after everything is installed. Needs longer bleeders and fittings.

It's Chattering Like Crazy

You need the extended bleeder hose to use this part, can't think of an application you wouldn't. Be prepared to reverse bleed his thing, normal bleeding or even vacuum bleeding is almost impossible. My "stock style" clutch is rubbing against the hyd line fitting, can't believe it. I guess I got the wrong "stock style" clutch. Not sure what I'm going to do about this. Lastly, the directions have you place the throwout bearing into the clutch fingers at full release, not sure how this thing will last in the long run with the bearing spinning st all times. The clutch does feel great. If it weren't interfering it'd be great.

This is a very affordable and well made part, just don't forget to add thread sealant before installing or it will come loose and leak inside of the bell housing. I forgot to add thread sealant and now I need to take it all back apart. It would be awesome if it came with a little tube of thread sealant.

I have used hydraulic throwout bearings in race cars for a long time. This will be the first street car I've built with one. This project is a street legal stock car with engine/trans setback about 8" from stock. There is no way stock clutch linkage will work. I had a hyd. throwout bearing for a race clutch but they are dimensionally different. This unit serves the same purpose for stock-style clutches. I am using this with a McLeod twin disc for SBC.

This Throw-out Bearing Is Good To Use For Adding Hydraulic Clutch System To Your Vehicle Or Upgrading Your Old Setup! Make Sure You Double Check Your Clearances Before Installation. Unfortunately, With My Application I Had To Get 0.50 Thousands Cut From My Inlet Shaft Bearing Retainer Cover. My Super T10 Is Brand New So Adding It With A Cast Bell Housing, Adjustments Had To Be Made. Also If You Are Using A Bellhousing From 1972 And Below, The Top Bleeder Line Need To Be On A 90 Degree Fitting, Or It WILL Rub On The Bellhousing........Thanks

I installed this in my new tkx 5 speed. This bearing was recommended to me by speedway for that kit. When it works is wonderful but I've had this bearing just drain all the fluid for no reason. All my lines are fine and aren't frayed. I parked it and 5 minutes later the fluid was all gone.
