GM’s Metric chassis (AKA 78-88 A- and G-Body, including Monte Carlo, Cutlass, and others) has become legendary. From using their chassis for circle track racing to many of their systems being integrated into aftermarket performance parts that allow people to easily find service parts at their closest auto parts store, GM’s Metric chassis lives on some three plus decades after the last one rolled off the assembly line!

The GM Metric chassis front and rear disc brake system components are a perfect example of what we mean. These pieces, like rotors and calipers are used for many an aftermarket disc brake conversion kit, allowing the consumer to easily find caliper slide bolts, brake pads, and more for a quick repair to get their ride back on the road. Speedway Motors offers numerous brake kits with GM Metric calipers as part of the kit for example. Traditionally, these GM Metric calipers have been a natural finish, but for those looking to create a statement with large window aftermarket wheels, we now offer these GM Metric calipers in both black and red powder coated finishes.

Direct Replacement Fitment for Your GM Metric Rear Disc Brake System

Our powder coated GM Metric brake calipers are made from the same heavy-duty cast steel material and feature a large 2-3/8-inch piston for strong and consistent braking performance. The slide bolt mounting center-to-center distance of 5.45-inches is maintained to ensure trouble-free installation on your GM Metric pattern disc brake caliper mounting brackets. This allows you to upgrade non parking brake caliper disc brake kits with a GM Metric caliper with parking brake to have a functional parking brake system if so desired. Our GM Metric caliper upgrade uses zinc plated parking brake brackets/hardware for simple connection to your original parking brake lever using either our universal cut-to-fit cable kit or Lokar’s universal cable kit available in black or stainless braid covering.

Compatible with standard 11-inch to 11-3/4-inch diameter disc brake rotors, these GM Metric brake calipers will directly replace your current bare finish GM Metric rear calipers. Their floating design requires a flexible brake hose connection, and we make that connection easy with a 7/16-20 SAE threaded fluid port that includes a new banjo bolt and crush washers for stress-free installation. Note that OEM calipers are metric and may require new brake hoses if that’s what you’re currently using. The bleeder screw maintains the OEM GM Metric 10-1.5MM spec, making it easy to find replacement bleeder screws. These calipers are sold individually by side and include new caliper slide bolts and street-friendly D154 brake pads. We offer a wide selection of D154 disc brake pads for service replacement or if you’re looking for a bit more aggressive pad material for performance use.

** Use of the E-Brake is recommended for proper operation of the self-adjusting mechanism. **

NOTE: These rear GM calipers use the parking brake to maintain proper brake adjustment, as the parking brake is integrated into the caliper and helps adjust the piston when there is clearance between the inboard brake pad and the rotor. Regular use of the parking brake allows the internal clutch in the caliper piston to take up this clearance and keep the rear brakes properly adjusted. Without periodic use of the parking brake, rear brake adjustment may decrease over time and result in a lower or softer brake pedal feel.

These calipers were for a disc brake conversion on my 1956 chevy and they work pretty well. The only issue was I had 10mm banjo bolts and these brakes take the 7/16" banjos so i had to buy new hoses. They took a little to adjust the e-brake but once I figured that out they were golden.
