Lower Your 1963-1970 C10’s Front Suspension and Gain Disc Brakes

If you wind the clock back to the 1940s and through most of the 1980s, your typical full size pickup truck was designed, built, and used for hauling. Be it delivering products, hauling equipment on a trailer, or just being the trusty farm truck that many of you probably learned to drive with on your grandparents back forty, the humble pickup was never really thought of by the Big Three as a cool ride that could be hot rodded. They were sold as workhorses and that’s what they did. That is until second, and now third generation family members are pulling these old trucks out of their barn-induced hibernation and turning them into some sweet rides to go cruising Main Street USA.

One of the first things classic truck owners do is give their ride an altitude adjustment by dropping it a few inches. The lowered ride height not only looks perfect, but leveling the truck takes a lot of the “work truck” look out of the equation. Not to mention, the lowered stance helps with handling and traction as well. Chevrolet’s immensely popular classic C10 pickup is super-hot with all manner of drivetrain upgrades, interior updates, and more available. Our C10 front suspension kit lowers your C10 by up to 4.5-inchs and provides a nice, easy lowering option that is a direct replacement while retaining stock-like spring rates. Our C10 front suspension lowering kit incorporates 2-inch drop springs that are easy to install and include shortened Speedway Motors twin tube gas shocks. The kit includes 2.5-inch drop spindles and all new disc brake conversion components to provide a lowered stance, disc brake upgrade, and conversion from the factory six-lug bolt pattern to the more common 5 on 5 lug bolt pattern for vastly larger wheel choices. A few hours with a friend and some hand tools and you’ll have your C10 hitting the road looking on point and ready for the next upgrade.

Quality Lowering Coil Springs Make Your C10 Front End Drop Easy

Our Chevy C10 lowering kit springs feature high grade steel construction beginning with 3/4-inch spring wire material. They are wound in a standard fixed spring rate of 1,100 lb/in with factory end pigtails and a free height of 11-1/2-inches. These springs provide a 2-inch drop to the front of your C10 and work with stock or aftermarket control arms. The springs are provided with a long-lasting gloss black powder coat that will go with any suspension/body/frame color and make the springs easy to keep clean and looking good.

We offer several C10 lowering kits with different drop levels and additional components like shocks, a track bar, and more. Our C10 rear lowering kit we offer compliments this front suspension drop kit if you’re looking to get the back end of your C10 down in the weeds as well. Of course, we also have a full line of sway bars, bushings, and more to completely revamp your suspension while you’re creating your lowered C10 project.

Factory Like Ride with Better Road Feel Thanks to Gas Charged Twin Tube Shocks

We have added some great gas charged twin tube shocks to this C10 lowering kit by way of our own Speedway Motors branded shocks. These shocks feature shortened bodies to match the reduced ride height provided by the kit’s coil springs and are valved to provide a smooth and comfortable ride, while enhancing road feel by better controlling the spring’s motion over road imperfections. These shocks feature increased low-speed compression with updated rebound forces, creating the perfect lowering shock that improves handling without sacrificing ride quality. The Speedway Motors lowering shocks are direct replacements for your stock front shocks and bolt right in with no drama. We even include new upper shock mount hardware for the installation.

Ditch The Drums and Add Disc Brakes with Popular 5 on 5 Bolt Pattern

Going lower than a 2-inch drop on your C10 up front means adding drop spindles to the equation to maintain proper ride quality. Anything more than 3-inches of drop can’t be safely handled with just a coil spring change, which is why we packaged our 2.5-inch drop spindles with this kit to provide that aggressive 4.5-inch drop for the front of your C10 while allowing the 2-inch drop spring and twin tube shock to maintain a stock like ride quality. These drop spindles include a complete disc brake conversion package as well, saving you the hassle of going back into the front suspension a second time since we know most C10 owners will be looking to ditch the 6-lug factory drum brakes for a nice disc brake system that uses the more popular 5 on 5 GM “large” truck bolt pattern that the 2WD C10 moved to in 1971. This allows a wider range of wheel options for your C10 (minimum 15-inch diameter disc brake compatible wheels to clear the brakes).

Included in the brake upgrade are 11.75-inch vented disc brake rotors with the 5 on 5 bolt pattern using 1/2-inch wheel studs and GM mid-size single piston disc brake calipers. The calipers make pad replacement easy with a large choice of brake pad options for the 1978-1988 GM Metric cars the calipers were originally installed on, including Monte Carlo, Grand Prix, Cutlass, and others. We provide all necessary wheel bearings, grease seals, rotor retaining hardware, and new brake hoses. Just bring your own wheel bearing grease to the party!

A DIY Project Easily Accomplished with Hand Tools

Dropping your C10 with our C10 front suspension kit is a great basic project for a Saturday afternoon with age-appropriate kids or grandkids to help sling some tools with. Using nothing more than hand tools, a floor jack, and some jack stands (don’t forget the tire chocks for additional safety!) you can knock out this spring and shock swap in just a couple of hours, even with the replacement of the spindles and packing the wheel bearings! The stock front coil springs do have some tension on them and take a little finesse to work free, but the shocks are simple nut and bolt work as well unless you have some seriously rusted fasteners to deal with. This is a project that will net you not only better handling and a great lowered front ride height that will make your C10 stand out, but you’ll be gaining the superiority of disc brakes and a more common wheel bolt pattern to allow your dream wheels to fit with ease. Best of all, you know it’s done right because you’re doing it yourself!
