That is saying a lot right there. For those building up the 1988-1998 GMT400 Chevy pickup, known to many by the “OBS” moniker (Old Body Style), Speedway Motors offers a bolt-in 9-inch Ford rear end housing for your build that is a direct swap for the stock C1500 Chevy truck rear end. This housing is made from premium steel and is fully welded, including brand new “Torino” big Ford axle housing ends and features a durable gloss black powder coat for long term protection and great looks under your truck. The housing maintains the 88-98 GMT400 Chevy truck rear end width for the 4th generation Chevy pickup and retains the stock shock mount locations for both two-wheel and four-wheel drive models.

The axle’s leaf spring mounting pads are affixed in their stock “spring over axle” top mounting location. This allows you to retain stock ride height characteristics or you can lower the rear of your OBS Chevy via lowering springs, shackles, or other options. We do offer our 9-inch Ford rear end housing with flipped leaf spring pad location as well if you’re looking to do an axle flip the right way to gain a 4-6 inch drop in the rear of your GMT400 OBS Chevy.

Our 9-inch Ford rear end housing package includes strong 31-spline performance axles with bearings and bearing lock rings already pressed into place on the axles. The axles feature the standard 1/2-ton truck 5 on 5 bolt pattern with 1/2-20 press-in threaded studs pre-installed as well. Finally, we include the axle retainer brackets and the correct 9-inch T-bolts and nuts to secure the axles and your drum or disc brake kit of choice.

Additional hardware includes 10 press-in studs with nylon locking nuts for the main housing to center section assembly, and a screw in axle vent fitting. All your new 9-inch housing needs for completion is a complete center section with your choice of differential and gearing and drum or disc brake package.
