A High-Performance Hub, Made Even Better
The engineers at Chevrolet have spent over 70 years refining the Corvette into “America’s Sports Car.” Their best ideas to maximize performance and durability start on the racetrack, then trickle down to the Corvette in the showroom. Since the very beginning, hot rodders have been capitalizing on these efforts and robbing the best parts from Chevrolet’s factory hot rod and applying them to their own cars.
The C7-style Corvette front hub is one such part. Instead of an old-school hub design where the wheel bearings ride on the spindle “candlestick,” they use larger diameter bearings that are better suited to the extreme speeds and side loads that a high-performance car can generate. Not only are there a ton of Corvettes out there that run this hub, there are also quite a few performance aftermarket suspension systems that have adapted this hub.
The Speedway Motors G-Comp™ front suspension is one such design. Ultra-strong fabricated uprights house C7-style hubs for a stout setup that matches the extreme strength and performance potential of the rest of the G-Comp™ suspension. Problem is, the supply and quality of factory-style hubs is subject to what’s available at the time. Factory-style hubs are made all over the world and quality can be inconsistent. Speedway Motors G-Comp™ suspensions are fabricated in our own manufacturing facility in Lincoln, Nebraska, allowing us total control over the quality of our suspension systems. Now we are manufacturing an improved, patent-pending high performance hub design right alongside the rest of the suspension kit, allowing us total control over this critical component.
A New Hub Design for the Ultimate in Performance and Strength
We didn’t set out to clone the Corvette hub design. Instead, we improved it. Both inner and outer hub components are CNC machined from billet steel and use race-proven Wide-5 bearings and an innovative patent-pending design that locks in the bearing preload to maximize strength, safety, and consistency. Unlike the stock C7 design, this hub is designed to be maintenance-friendly, allowing for easy assembly, lubrication, and inspection. These hubs come assembled with Dorman wheel studs and high-quality lubricant. They are available in the popular 5 x 4-3/4” bolt pattern, making them a direct fit to G-Comp™ suspensions using the Corvette style hub and other aftermarket suspensions that use this hub design.
The resulting hub is stronger and has increased camber stiffness, making it ideally suited to cars that are stuck to the track on big, sticky tires. Not only will these hubs not loosen up when subjected to extreme side loads, they will also prevent brake pad knockback caused by deflection in the bearings. This prevents a potentially dangerous situation and contributes to consistent brake pedal feel, which is critical in autocross and road racing applications.
So, whether you’re spec’ing the ultimate G-Comp™ suspension for your project or replacing worn or damaged hubs on your G-Comp™ or other aftermarket suspension, these hubs provide the ultimate in strength, precision, and serviceability. The hubs are a critical component on your race car or Pro Touring machine, so don’t take chances on pieces of unknown origin. Instead, rely on hubs manufactured with the same commitment to quality and performance that the Speedway Motors G-Comp™ line has become known for.
Application
Universal G-Comp™ Suspension Kits use fabricated uprights and are supplied with standard hubs. This G-Comp™ X hub is available separately as an upgrade.
Given the extreme performance capability of the race-ready G-Comp™ X line of suspensions, these upgraded billet hubs are now included in those kits to handle the intense forces that can be generated on the racetrack.
