A Direct-Fit Ford 9-inch Rear End Housing to Start Your Square Body C10 Build
There is certainly no denying the popularity of Ford’s venerable 9-inch rear axle when it comes to high performance street and racing applications. It’s probably a safe bet there are more non-Ford vehicles on the road (and track) with a Ford 9-inch rear end under the rear of them than Ford ever shipped off their assembly lines! That is saying a lot right there. From the stronger housing design to the huge aftermarket support in axles, differentials, ring and pinion gears, and more, the Ford 9-inch rear end is the performance axle housing to use, without a doubt.
For those building up the 1973-1987 C10 pickup, known to many by the “square body Chevy” moniker, Speedway Motors offers a bolt-in 9-inch Ford rear end housing for your build that is a direct swap for the stock Chevy truck rear end. This housing is made from premium steel and is fully welded, including brand new “Torino” big Ford axle housing ends. The housing maintains the 73-87 C10 rear end width for the 3rd generation Chevy pickup and retains the stock shock mount locations.
The axle’s leaf spring mounting pads have been relocated to the bottom of the axle tubes, which in turn places the axle housing above the leaf spring pack for a rear suspension drop of 4-6 inches. Perfect for leveling out your C10’s ride height. Due to the drop this axle provides you’ll need to either use shock extenders to reuse your stock length shocks or use a shorter rear shock. We do offer our 9-inch Ford rear end housing with stock leaf spring pad location as well if you’re planning your drop via springs/shackles.
Includes Fully Assembled Axles Ready for Your Differential and Center Section
Our 9-inch Ford rear end housing package includes strong 31-spline performance axles with bearings and bearing lock rings already pressed into place on the axles. The axles feature the standard 1/2-ton truck 5 on 5 bolt pattern with 1/2-20 press-in threaded studs pre-installed as well. Finally, we include the axle retainer brackets and the correct 9-inch T-bolts and nuts to secure the axles and your drum or disc brake kit of choice.
Additional hardware includes 10 press-in studs with nylon locking nuts for the main housing to center section assembly, and a screw in axle vent fitting. All your new 9-inch housing needs for completion is a complete center section with your choice of differential and gearing and drum or disc brake package. Our complete 9-inch 3rd members are the perfect choice to finish your 9-inch build to replace your tired Chevy truck rear end with our Ford 9-inch rear end in your square body Chevy while maintaining the stock 73-87 C10 rear end width.
