A Bolt-On Solution To Your Turbo Hot Side Plumbing Needs

Most turbocharged builds are universal by nature of the product. The turbocharger has a hot side and a cold side, both with inlets and outlets. The turbo requires a secure mount, usually directly on a cast iron manifold or fabricated turbo header, and then the hot and cold sides are plumbed out from there. The cold side is easy, as it generally only requires universal intake tubing and silicone hose couplers with clamps. The hot side is a different story. Mainly due to the high exhaust temperatures, steel exhaust tubing is used and welding is often required.

For the typical T3, T3/T4, and T04E turbos that use a 5-bolt hot side exhaust outlet these turbos are designed for an internal turbo wastegate setup with the T3/T4 wastegate incorporated into the exhaust outlet flange, or even as part of the turbine housing. Most turbos in this size category are sold without the 5-bolt outlet. In the past, your best option was using a 5-bolt outlet flange and welding a section of exhaust pipe to it (or finding a flange with a starter tube already welded on) and using an external wastegate valve. While some prefer the option of an external wastegate and using a 5-bolt adapter, using an internal wastegate keeps your installation simple, clean, and compact.
