A Complete Rear Suspension Solution For Your 1955-1959 Chevy 1/2-Ton Truck
Working off the success of the Advance Design series of pickup trucks, Chevrolet launched the Task Force line of trucks mid-1955 as a more modern truck that didn’t sacrifice the ability to still do truck-like things. These 3100 Chevy trucks, including the Apache and Cameo models to come later in the series, were used as the same workhorse solutions that the Advance Design series were known for: farm use, deliveries, work/trade trucks, and more. Much like the Advance Design trucks today lead lives as cool hot rods and weekend drivers, so too do the Chevy Task Force generation of trucks. Today, you can find these cool trucks doing everything from weekend car shows to driving major cross country cruises.
The transformation from work truck to fun truck often begins with ditching the utilitarian truck suspension. These trucks provide a harsh ride due to the load carrying capabilities the stock Chevy truck suspension provides. Updating the suspension with better components and more modern features not only gives these trucks a better ride but also improves the truck’s stance and handling by lowering the truck. The typical front suspension upgrades include a Mustang II crossmember with your choice of control arms and springs. Out back the addition of updated Chevy leaf springs and Chevy truck shocks to provide a lowered stance and better ride completes the suspension updates.
Lower Your Chevy Task Force Truck Four Inches While Improving Ride Quality
The factory ’55-’59 Chevy leaf springs are quite heavy duty, and designed to carry a loaded bed of sundries, work tools, etc. Our Super Glide® leaf springs have just four leaves to them, providing a smooth ride. With our nearly 100 percent bolt-in rear suspension kit for your ’55-’59 Chevy 1/2-ton you can expect to see four inches of drop in the rear. This is attributed to relocating the axle housing to the top of the spring pack (factory has the axle under the spring pack) and our Super Glide® leaf spring’s reverse spring eye setup. Pairing these springs with the included AFCO Street Rod monotube gas-charged shocks in place of the factory Chevy truck shocks provide an excellent ride and handling improvement without spending thousands of dollars on complicated rear suspension conversions.
Designed For 3-Inch Axle Tubes to Support Popular 9-inch Axle Swaps
Many builders opt for Ford’s venerable 9-inch axle housing for its strength and vast aftermarket support of gear ratio, differential, and brake options. Knowing this, we provide compatible leaf spring mounts designed for the Ford 9-inch axle tube diameter of 3-inch OD. These pieces do require welding to your axle housing; however, the remaining leaf spring hanger/shackle brackets are bolt-in upgrades once you drill out the factory rivets and remove the original cast iron leaf spring mounts. These brackets are all made from 7-gauge steel (3/16-inch thick), while the leaf spring mounts are 10-gauge (1/8-inch thick) pieces. Also included are our zinc plated universal lower leaf spring mounting plates and zinc plated U-bolts to assemble the leaf springs to your axle housing. These 3/8-inch thick plates also pull double duty as the lower shock mounts, minimizing the welding required on your axle housing and providing maximum clearance for your exhaust system.
Near Vertical Shock Mounting Brackets For Better Ride And Handling
Standard shock mounting is often angled, which reduces the shock's effectiveness to dampen the movement of the springs and suspension components/axle. Our bolt on shock brackets provide a near vertical shock mounting solution without the need for additional welding, fabrication, or bracing. The near vertical shock mounting also provides additional clearnace for exhaust routing over your rear axle as well. Add our 1955-1959 Chevy truck front frame boxing plates for even more strength. Update your 3100 Chevy truck suspension with our engineered solution and you’ll be able to cruise in style with a smooth ride and perfect stance.
