Winters Performance 6-Bolt Quick Change Rear End, 4.12 Ring and Pinion

 Winters has developed a brand new full-size quick change center section with some significant design and manufacturing improvements. The result is the strongest production quick change available anywhere. The new center sections have been redesigned to incorporate larger ribs running from the rear gear cavity to the front snout and increased fillets (i.e. more material) in high-stress areas at the bell mounting flanges. Winters were also able to reduce material in low-stress areas so that the new centers weigh the same as the old versions.

But even more significant is that all centers are Permanent Mold castings. Previously all quick changes were made using sand casting, which employs single-use sand-based molds into which molten aluminum is hand-poured. Sand casting allows for core shift, agitation of the base metal due to hand-pouring, and increased casting porosity. Permanent mold castings use precision-machined H13 tool steel molds and a mechanical tilt-pour method. The combination of superior permanent mold tooling, a more controlled pouring method, and triple ceramic-filtered base material eliminates porosity and results in castings that are denser, more consistent with tighter tolerances, and stronger than the other sand cast centers on the market. 

–– Compared with sand cast ASTM A356-T6 aluminum, our castings have 13% greater tensile strength, 35% greater yield and 43% greater elongation.

–– Compared with sand cast ASTM AS91E-T6 magnesium, ours are 13% greater tensile, 103% greater yield and 67% greater elongation.
