I mounted it flush with the door instead of "bolt on". Just made 1/4" spacers to bolt on behind the spindle plate to make up for the real estate lost by not surface mounting.

Product works great and was easy to install with a little fabrication and cutting the door was simple. Ensure proper alignment before drilling mounting holes for the latch makes it easy. I did have to take it out and drill out the lower hole that the inside door handle bolts too. For whatever reason it wasn't large enough for the bolt provided. Also take care not to over tighten this bolt. The only think that I had an issue with was the kit was missing the 6 bolts that bolt the catch to the door jam. It came with all other hardware but these.
