Replaced original sprint hinges on a 1948 Ford Convertible
The original spring hinges were working okay most of the time, but I could not rely on the hood staying open. These new struts exceeded my expectations. The hood opens easily with a good amount of force and now opens as far as it will go. I had the hood brackets painted to match the body paint and they blend right in.
A few things to plan for;
1) I had to raised the front end to access the inner fender bolts for the strut support. Easy to replace.
2) I used Velcro to protect the cowl from the hood. It will raise all the way and damage the paint.
3) The new hood bolts protrude further than the rubber grommets and since they are metal, will damage the fender. I had to protect the bolt heads.
I attached some pictures. These are well worth the money.
