The benefits of braided stainless hoses are great. They do, however, have a few drawbacks. Aside from the amount of finger bandages we go through attaching fittings to the hoses after cutting them to length, they are a bit abrasive. And that is one of the last things we want when they are around our freshly painted engine bays.

This is where Fragola Performance Systems has stepped up with a new offering. They have taken their braided stainless hose built around polytetrafluoroethylene, or P.T.F.E., for short, and added an optional plastic coating in clear or black. P.T.F.E. has been around for quite a few years now, and is steadily gaining popularity due to several factors. The natural corrosion resistant properties of P.T.F.E. means it works well for the hose destroying nature of brake fluids, and with an operating pressure from 1500psi to 2500psi they are also suited for high pressure fuel and power steering applications. Yet another benefit deals with the resiliency of P.T.F.E. and its ability to withstand the expansion cycles over long periods of time that can weaken traditional fuel line. Depending on your sanctioning body rules, this may also be an acceptable fuel line to use in your race car as well.

Also coming from Fragola is their “Real Street” AN fitting selection. Available in -6, -8, and -10, these are reusable fittings built with a double swivel design that allows the installer to “clock” the fitting to the appropriate angle without having to twist the line it is attached to. Also, instead of the more traditional blue and red of the AN-style fittings, these are anodized to a sharp looking black finish.
