A Bolt-In Solution to Your C4 Corvette’s Tremec TKO-500/600 Swap

At the time, Chevrolet’s C4 Corvette was a technological marvel and a huge leap ahead from the outgoing C3 Corvette. Built from 1983 through 1996, this generation of Corvette would see the venerable small block Chevy fuel injected and backed by four-speed overdrive transmissions (both automatic and manual versions) initially and later a six-speed manual. Upgraded suspension, brakes, and an all new interior with a digital dash were highlights of this fourth generation Corvette.

The C4 Corvette has become a great entry level project in the world of Corvettes and has seen a bit of a renaissance period for road racing and autocross use, either with some form of small block Chevy, or with an LS swapped under hood thanks to the availability of bolt-in motor mount adapters. Our very own 1986 C4 project car has been heavily tested by Team Speedway (you can read all about the project in our Toolbox article) and can be seen tearing up autocross events all over the country.

With modern power under the hood of a C4 rowing your own gears is the only way to make it around the course, and sadly the most common C4 corvette manual transmission, the Doug Nash 4+3, just isn’t up to the task. Knowing the popularity of Tremec’s tough-as-nails TKO-500 and TKO-600 five-speeds, Team Speedway helped us develop this torque arm adapter mount to allow a near bolt-in solution to retaining the C4 Corvette’s torque arm (be it factory manual or automatic model) while performing a C4 Corvette transmission swap with Tremec’s TKO-series manual transmissions. Our simple adapter is made from a combination of 3/8-inch and 3/16-inch thick plate steel that is fixture welded for a precise assembly. It directly bolts to the tailshaft of your TKO-series transmission and sandwiches between the transmission mount pad and your mount for the utmost in strength, becoming one with the transmission. Attaching your factory torque arm requires minor trimming of the torque arm itself and enlarging a few holes; easily accomplished with basic hand tools. Make your C4 Corvette manual transmission upgrade a breeze with our adapter and eliminate one more headache from your project.
