Squarebody Bumper Guard for 1981-1987 Chevy Trucks
If there’s one thing that takes a stock appearing front end on a Squarebody Chevy truck to the next level, it is adding a Squarebody grill guard or “push bar” to it. A Chevy truck brush guard is the perfect 1980s esthetic that looks right at home still to this day. Their appearance indicates “this truck means business” and while they are worth their addition on looks alone, they can be quite helpful in protecting your K10 grille, Chevy C10 grille, radiator, and other Chevy C10 parts on the front of your rig when off-roading or in an altercation with an animal or road debris.
Fits Chevy C10 & K10 Squarebody Trucks
We designed our Squarebody grill guard to be a direct fit to the popular 1981-1987 model years of Chevy C10 and K10 pickups. These muscular trucks are the perfect generation to fit a grill guard on to. Our Chevy truck push bar design provides a tight fit with minimal gap on factory bumpers without the impact or “rub” strip molding option. If your Squarebody C10 or K10 bumper has this impact strip, you’ll need to trim/notch the impact strip molding for clearance of this Squarebody brush guard. Better yet simply upgrade your 81-87 Squarebody front bumper to one without the impact strip.
Chevy Truck Grill Guard Construction & Specs
We offer our Squarebody brush guard in two finishes, a sleek semi-gloss black powder coated steel, or a bright polished stainless steel. Either version of our Chevy truck grill guard will no doubt look great on your truck and compliment other Squarebody parts you’ve added! Built with 3/8-inch-thick side plates for maximum strength and support, these contoured plates are connected via a pair of 3-inch cross tubes. These tubes, one positioned at the top and one approximately 10-1/4-inches below, measuring center to center, are cut from .120-inch wall tubing (both steel and stainless-steel models). The 7-gauge mild steel mounting tabs are welded to the side plates to provide easy installation using your existing mounting holes for the factory bumper guards (if equipped).
How to Mount a Squarebody Push Bar Guard
Installation of our 1981-1987 Chevy Squarebody K10/C10 push bar is simple, as we’ve designed it to reuse the factory Chevy truck bumper guard mounting holes found in the OEM front bumper. Simply remove the stock bumper guards (if equipped) and install the grill guard in place using the original bumper guard hardware. If your existing hardware is worn or damaged, or your C10/K10 did not come with bumper guards you will need to source replacement hardware. We ensured the mounting tabs used the same square holes as the bumper to fit a 1/2-inch carriage bolt and not rotate when tightened. We do offer a chrome bumper bolt that would work quite well for the polished stainless steel grill guard and would offer a nice contrast for the black grill guard.
As mentioned previously, if your C10/K10 is optioned with the front bumper impact strip it will need to be notched or trimmed accordingly for proper fitment of our Square Body Chevy push bar. Honestly, the worst part of your installation may be dealing with the removal of original rusty and crusty hardware of your Chevy C10 bumper guards. Save yourself a little frustration and inspect your existing K10 bumper guard hardware in advance and either soak them in rust penetrant spray or simply plan to cut the old hardware off and have new hardware ready to go.
