Perfect for my aplication but it could b

I was looking high and low for a lower mount that would work for me and low and behold speedway had just what I needed (again) as they always seem to. The only thing I would change would be how it's clamped together. I too was surprised to see that small screw in the center. It would be easier (Both to manufacture and for the buyer to install) if they made one side a thru hole and one side threaded. Just use a longer bolt on one side and it would be perfect. All outside appearances would stay the same. I'm no engineer but I drew up a small diagram to show what I mean. Less machining may even yield a less expensive part (wishful thinking) not that it was insane expensive but today every little bit helps. I would also think a bigger bolt would hold better then that tiny 8-24 screw. If it ever breaks I may just mill mine out. Overall it's a very nice piece though. With my application the column goes thru the floor right in the center of the joined toe board and fire wall so most mounts wouldn't work because they need a flat surface. My surface is a V. It looks very well made too.

It's okay to use

Good piece to mount the 2" steering column. Heavy duty and can be welded into place if need be. To slide the piece on to the column you will need to sand away some of the powder coating inside of the ring. Other wise it is way too tight to slide unless you can open it further using tools. ADVICE: To open the ring you will need to remove the flanges and take out or loosen the screw inside of the ring. If you have to take the 5/8" #8-32 hex head screw out, and you will have to, you will need to replace it with a 3/4" #8-32 hex head screw because the ring is very hard to close with out the screw unless you can pinch it closed. Good luck at this! The longer screw will work for you in pulling the ring closed to tighten it. Drill the holes for the bolts or weld the flanges to the mounting area. Over all a good column mount to use. I would give it 5 stars but having to replace the inside screw piszed me off so it only got 3 stars.

Bought this to mount a Speedway universal steering column in my 71 Chevelle. Although it looks to be a great product, it would not work in my application. I'm sure there are others that it will work fine
