I had a similar high flow thermostat in my car and it seemed that while I was driving it would shut and once I was idling at a light it would open. I don't know for sure if that was the case or if it was air pockets but I read a lot and heard that the ones with holes like this one aid in getting rid of air pockets and increased flow. I think the only thing you are giving up is a slightly quicker warm up time. After installing and testing in the car (without driving) it stayed below half instead of creeping higher and then dropping. After road testing it did seem to work better than my other one without the holes. My gauge fluctuates more than I think it should, just something to get used to. My only gripe so far is that I think I can hear a high noise of the water flowing through the holes.

It comes with no instructions, if you install it without checking the if the cups lower slots are lined up with the flow channels it'll restrict the flow n heat up fast n keep going up!! 3 laps in 90 degree weather I came in over 230 degrees. After we removed it and figured out to turn the brass cup to line up the flow channels, reinstalled it then it ran much better. The main started at 87 degrees air temp n the engine ran 170-180 till the first yellow. It heated up to 210 then cooled a little during the race, we came in at 230 degrees. 36 degree full advance on the timing The stat needs to be a lower opening temp, I'd like to see it open at 160 instead of 180. I think it would work better.
