Transfer Your Winch to Another Spot on Your Trailer, Or from One Trailer to Another

If your trailer utilizes an electric winch for vehicle loading/unloading, you know how convenient they truly are. We offer our detachable winch mount kit to provide an easy way to remove your trailer’s winch when it isn’t needed, be it for additional floor space or for security purposes. This trailer winch mount is made from 1/4-inch and 1/2-inch plate steel and has a 10,000 pound linear pull strength due to its keyhole slot design, meaning you don’t have to physically unbolt your winch from your trailer’s deck. Simply remove your padlock or the included clevis pin and slide the winch off of the base plate. Featuring a standard 10x4-1/2-inch winch mounting pattern, you can fit most any winch up to 10K pounds, such as our Smittybilt XRC-9.5K Gen2 winch.

We’ve heard from our customers asking if they could purchase an additional winch mount base plate for their other trailers or to mount in a second location upon their trailer without the need for buying and wiring a second winch. To assist those that may have, say an open and an enclosed trailer, or those that want a second winch mounting location at the rear of their trailer, we now offer the quick detach winch mounting kit’s base plate with attaching hardware. This means you can mount this additional plate in a location of your choosing to move your winch to and even includes a new clevis pin so you don’t have to swap your clevis pin from one base plate to another. You can also use this spare mounting plate to store your winch in your garage or shop as well. Instead of shoving your winch under your bench when not in use, you could use this spare winch mounting plate to use as a secure mounting solution to store your winch when not in use.

Spare Winch Base Plate Can Be Mounted to Wood or Steel Trailer Surfaces

Just like our regular detachable winch mounting kit, you will need to securely mount your winch base plate to a structural member of your trailer deck or floor. Once a location is chosen you will have to also craft a winch power extension cable of sorts (for a second location on the same trailer). Using a quick disconnect is highly recommended, as it makes the job of moving the winch from one location to another, or from one trailer to another that much simpler. Lock the winch upper plate to the lower plate, slip the clevis (or your choice of padlock) into place to secure the plates together, and then plug in your electrical quick connect and you’re ready to start winching.

Mounting your car trailer winch mount bracket floor plate is critical to the floor plate and winch’s overall ability to winch a vehicle into place. We have tested our spare floor plate to 10,000 pounds of pulling force, but the floor plate must be securely mounted to reach and maintain this rating. Included with the spare winch floor mount plate is robust 1/2-inch mounting hardware, including additional large washer plates, to prevent pull through on wooden plank trailer flooring, which is common to open trailers. We highly recommend mounting the winch floor plate to structural steel cross bars or dedicated trailer winch mount platforms if possible.
