Mock Up a Tremec T-56 Six-Speed Transmission to Popular Domestic V8 Engines
When 5-speed overdrive manual transmissions first started showing up in domestic production cars in the 1980s every enthusiast with an aging 3-speed or 4-speed non-overdrive manual transmission in the tunnel clamored for one. Five-speed manual transmission swap kits popped up in catalogs, enthusiast car magazines, and on display at major car shows all over. The 5-speed swap for Mustangs, Camaros, Challengers, and even mini-trucks and imports became huge overnight. Then, in 1992 the Dodge Viper happened. What's this? A Borg-Warner 6-speed manual with TWO overdrive gears? The manual transmission swap landscape changed, and for the better.
The short, crisp shifts of the T-56, much greater torque capacity over the 5-speed manual transmissions being swapped at the time, and of course those 5th and 6th gear overdrives for high speed cruising, meant the T-56 quickly became the "must have" transmission to swap into anything with four wheels. Borg-Warner sold off their transmission division to Tremec in 1996 and today Tremec offers the TR-6060, Magnum, and Magnum XL 6-speed transmissions, all with major internal improvements and more torque capacity than the OG T-56, as part of the T-56 6-speed manual transmission family. If there is one "fault" with the T-56 family of 6-speed transmissions is that it is physically larger than the typical 5-speed and thus does not line up with 5-speed swap parts like transmission crossmembers. The only way to know if a T-56 6-speed will fit is to mock it up in your chassis, and that's where our patent pending SoloSwap® T-56 mock up bellhousing comes in.
Laser Cut and Press Bent for Precise Mock Up Use in Your Project Build
Like every other product in our SoloSwap® line, our SoloSwap® T-56 mock up bellhousing is designed, engineered, and manufactured right here at Speedway Motors in Lincoln, NE. Each piece is laser cut from 7 gauge mild steel, precision bent and then laser etched with measurements and fitment marks to provide precise location of adjustment points, easy assembly, and mounting to your engine or SoloSwap® mock up block. This precision manufacturing provides repeatable results using our mock up T56 bellhousing every time you grab it off the shelf for another project, and just like the rest of our SoloSwap® product line, you can either leave the mock up bellhousing assembled for quick use or break it down and save some shelf space storing it until you need it for the next project.
Furthermore, the 7 gauge construction provides the strength to attach an actual T-56 transmission to the bellhousing for your mock up purposes. Or you can investigate our SoloSwap® T-56 mock up transmissions coming soon to the product line for a complete mock up solution from engine block to driveshaft. Either way, our SoloSwap® T56 transmission bellhousing provides the correct depth and mounting pattern for your application to ensure your T-56, Magnum, Magnum XL, or TR-6060 transmission is in the right place for crossmember fabrication, shifter opening, exhaust routing, and so much more for a headache free custom drivetrain installation.
One Mock Up Tool Fits Popular Domestic V8 Engines to Accurately Place Your T-56
Designed to fit popular GM, Ford, and Mopar V8 engines, we have built in the correct bellhousing depth directly into the adjustment tabs on the sides of the engine and transmission plates for an adjustment of 4.75-inch to 7.50-inch in depth. The mock up bellhousing's engine side plate features bolt patterns for GM small block, big block, LT, and LS engines, along with Ford's small block, big block, and Modular engine family (including Coyote and Godzilla), and Mopar's small block and Gen III Hemi engines, aiding in your engine swap needs. The engine side plate works with stock and aftermarket blocks as well as our SoloSwap® mock up engine block line.
The transmission side plate is laser cut with the Tremec T-56/Magnum/TR-6060 bolt pattern (will not work with classic TKO, TKO-500/600, or TKX 5-speeds). Pre-indexed holes are provided for quick identification of the various engine fitment options. The included 5/16 hardware provides a secure attachment of the two halves (a bolt in each adjustment slot and one bolt in the correct preset depth hole per side). M10x1.50 flange nuts are provided for the transmission plate for mounting a mock up T-56 or real T-56 transmission (M10x1.50 bolts of the proper length not provided). You will also need the appropriate size and length bolts to attach the engine side plate to your engine as well.
Whether you are using an actual T-56 transmission, or one of our SoloSwap® mock up T-56 transmissions, our SoloSwap® mock up bellhousing for T-56 6-speeds will ensure your transmission is in the proper place behind your engine every time no matter the engine you're using.
