Disconnect And Remove Your Trailer’s Winch in Minutes

Securely mounting your winch to a structural member of your trailer deck or floor is paramount to proper winch use. However, this solid mounting makes removal of your winch for when it isn’t needed difficult. You literally would have to get under your trailer’s deck or tongue and unbolt your winch. This puts undue wear on the attaching hardware, is time consuming, and often requires a second set of helping hands. Our removable winch mount for trailer use is a two piece assembly consisting of a trailer winch mount floor plate that attaches in the traditional way with through bolts, and a removable winch mounting plate that features a standard 10x4-1/2-inch winch mounting pattern for winches such as the Smittybilt XRC-9.5K Gen2 winch. The floor plate and the removable trailer winch mounting plate lock together via four robust CNC machined keyhole mounts and are secured via a 5/16-inch clevis pin (or optionally a 5/16-inch shackle padlock for additional security).

Having the ability to quickly remove your car or utility trailer’s winch is even more important on open deck trailers that are stored outside. No longer do you have to rely on a winch cover that can easily disappear in a strong wind, or the ordeal of trying to wrap your winch in heavy plastic lawn bags to protect it from snow and rain. Simply pull the clevis pin (or remove your padlock) and slide the winch mount bracket top plate back to disengage the keyhole mounts and you can bring your winch safely inside away from the elements and those looking to possibly make off with your winch in the dead of the night. You could even purchase additional winch mount bracket floor plates, which would allow you to move a single winch between multiple trailers or different positions on the same trailer.

Laser Cut and CNC Machined Components for Strength and Precise Fit

We know an 8,000-10,000 pound capacity winch can put a lot of strain on a mount, which is why we laser cut our floor plate and winch plate from 1/4-inch thick A36 plate steel. The keyhole mounts are CNC machined from 1/2-inch thick A36 plate steel and precisely jig welded to the floor plate. The complete assembly is given a satin black powder coat finish for durability and lasting appearance. Tolerances are kept in check to ensure that, even with powder coating, the winch plate can easily disengage from the floor plate with minimum effort. High temperature grease is recommended between the two mounting surfaces where the keyholes and lock pins make contact.

Winch Base Plate Can Be Mounted to Wood or Steel Trailer Surfaces

Mounting your car trailer winch mount bracket floor plate is critical to the floor plate and winch’s overall ability to winch a vehicle into place. We have tested our floor plate to 10,000 pounds of pulling force, but the floor plate must be securely mounted to reach and maintain this rating. Included with the winch floor mount plate is robust 1/2-inch mounting hardware, including additional large washer plates, to prevent pull through on wooden plank trailer flooring, which is common to open trailers. We highly recommend mounting the winch floor plate to structural steel cross bars or dedicated trailer winch mount platforms if possible.
