The steel insert helps keep gasket from mushrooming under compression. Valve covers can be removed weekly to check valves without damage.

The holes in the gasket did not line up with the valve cover. Consequently I had to make the holes in the gasket bigger. Felpro's are better.

Didn't use these. The holes were not right, which made the gasket not sit on the head. Or middle was to long cause it had a hump in it.
