Lightweight Engine Mock-Up, Easy On Your Back, But Is Pricey
When you buy one of these, it is a grab bag, because quality varies from one to another. These used to be fairly inexpensive, but the price has gone up to not make them cost effective, unless you have enough work to recoup your losses. The one I got here was dimensionally correct, but had lots of silicone release residue. If you are familiar with silicone grease, or oil, it gets on everything it touches, and it is no good for paint adhesion. I use a high alkaline cleaner to help remove the silicone residue whether I paint the product or not. Whoever did the casting trimming on the block, got carried away, grinding some of the detail away, cutting off corners, where it should be rounded. Lastly, the whole casting, although usable, was very porous, and rough, as though being pulled from the mold at the improper time. If you really want one, try to find a used plastic mockup, and use your savings to buy real parts. Some people have bought these, and made neat looking tables out of them. This is the last one that I will ever buy new.
