This is a Ford style sending unit for Omega Kustom electric speedometer gauges. Signal generators are required if your transmission has or had a speedometer cable. This speed signal generator has a drive tip, just like the original speedo drive cable, which turns a generator making the pulse signal needed by the electric speedometer
No signal generator is required if your transmission is computer controlled or has a built in signal generator.

Works good just have to be sure you do the setup right but if so very accurate had to modify the spacer park of the thing to fit my c6 but stuff like that is always expected on an old car.

The only problem I encountered was that the ear on the retaining bracket had to be shortened to allow full engagement of the sending unit into the Tremec TKO 5-Speed that was being used.

Fits well after I removed the big Oring with the smaller one from the old sender. Also had to use the old clamp as the new one didn"t fit well on my 80 AOD. Have not installed AOD in my 49 Ford pickup but sure it will work great.

does the omege 97705 soeedometer guage sender need a gear on it? The unit only has a short cable on the transmission side. The speedometer cable has a gear on it.
