LevelSet™ Modernizes the Dropped Spindle 

Dropped spindles are one of the oldest tricks in the book to bring a C10 truck closer to the ground. Instead of installing a shortened lowering spring that can negatively affect the truck’s handling and alignment, dropped spindles move the hub up relative to the rest of the suspension, lowering the truck without messing with the geometry. Historically, dropped spindles have simply been a revised version of the stockers, but with the spindle pin moved up. That “candlestick” spindle pin dates back to the horse and buggy days, and modern trucks that spend time at speed out on the freeway deserve a more modern hub design.

Speedway Motors LevelSet™ Dropped Spindles feature a 2.5” drop, but with a twist. Instead of the traditional candlestick where the wheel bearings ride, these spindles use a more modern cartridge style hub, similar to what’s used on modern trucks and sports cars. This design offers increased strength when compared to the old school design thanks in part to bigger bearings that are positioned closer to the hub. The result is greater resistance to side loading since the forces are not cantilevered out to the tiny end of the pin. Additionally, this design results in lower bearing speeds thanks to the larger bearing diameter. On top of that, the spindle itself is forged from 4140 steel for even more strength and durability. The spindles are black powdercoated for a clean look and added corrosion protection.

LevelSet™ spindles are designed specifically to fit your ’63-’70 Chevy and GMC ½ ton with a bolt-on steering arm that makes for a direct fit. Hubs are available in both the ’71-up 5 x 5” bolt pattern as well as the earlier 6 x 5.5” pattern to work with a huge variety of stock and aftermarket wheels. 

LevelSet™ spindles open the door to massive braking improvements as well. Pre-’71 trucks will benefit from a conversion to disc brakes from the archaic stock drums, and all models can benefit from the available disc brake options from mild to high performance.
