Buyer's Guide

This steering wheel adapter allows you to put an aftermarket 3-bolt steering wheel on a 1969-1994 GM, Ididit or Flaming River non-telescopic type steering column. Horn button not included. Includes black metal cover, horn button spring, plunger spring, lead wire and three mounting bolts. Grant does not include a spacer as it is typically not needed for most applications, but if required, a simple washer will suffice.

Note: When using this adapter, if the column has not previously had a steering wheel mounted, # 910-64049 will also be required.

Speedway helped when other shops would not even try

I am building a "rat rod" riding lawnmower. Well this certain brand has a really strange steering col. I was told that a certain year GM steering col. aftermarket adapter kit would work for this fun project . I contacted Speedway and informed them what I was tiring to do, and sure enough the steering wheel adapter kit will allow me to use an old red metal flake steering wheel . All the other shops had no idea on what to use, and a couple of them acted like I was wasting their time. After being involved with either street rods, or some type of hot rod for close to 60 years now, customer service means a lot to me. Even though the cost was less than $35.00, Speeday treated me like I was buying a complete big block.

Good kit with one exception

This kit worked well, once I sorted out the instructions. I spoke to a tech at Speedway and learned that the instructions that came with the kit had been updated. The new ones are posted on Speedway's web site. They were much clearer. However, I think the kit should include a new horn contact ring. The instructions say to shorten the sleeve in the existing one. What it doesn't say is that you also need to shorten the tube that the sleeve is inserted in, which also involves cutting a new hole and slot to retain the nib on the sleeve. That's a pretty delicate operation. It'd be much better if Grant simply included a replacement horn contact ring in the kit.

Part fit just add it should and looks nice as well. If you have a painted steering wheel, you will need to expose some bare metal for the contact ring so your horn works.
