Speedway Motors 91632009 Details

Flame cut steel upper steering arm for '37-'48 Ford spindles (with 3-3/8" mount centers). This design is available in 6-1/4" or 7-3/4" lengths. The longer 7-3/4" arms permit a tighter left turn when using large diameter front tires or front wheels with a deep reverse, and it also slows the steering rate for greater control. 5/8" end accepts spherical rod ends.

NOTE: Upper steering arms allow the attachment of a drag link to the LH (driver's side) spindle. The arms attach with bolts through the upper 2 backing-plate-mounting holes on spindle.

Overall Assessment

Customers appreciate the product for its perfect fit, good design, and fine finish. The heavy-duty and sturdy material assures users of its durability and increased safety. It significantly reduces the possibility of bump steer, enhancing usability. Some users had to make minor adjustments for it to fit perfectly, but reported satisfaction once installed. Some users expressed concern about the plating filling up the tapped threads and occurrences of rust on the threads. Despite minor fit and quality issues, customers affirm its practicality, recommending it for building hotrods and rat rods. The product is valued for its reasonable price for its weight and robustness.

Had to return but not the fault of Speedway

Had to return using model a I beam axle with adjustable spring over perches and it wouldn't clear. Not speedways fault just one of those things you run into when mating up parts not designed for your application. Building a vintage gas dragster so you will always run into problems wish these would have worked really nice part.

What I needed but quality is an issue

First one I ordered had stripped threads. It must have been used and returned before. Replacement was easy. Second one they sent had rusted threads. It's been soaking for 10 days now in PB blaster so I can get the rust off the threads and actually use it. Frustrated with the quality to say the least. Considering having one made at the local machine shop.

I needed a steering arm, mounted on the right hand side at the top of the spindle, so that the drag link was more parallel to the steering gear, to help reduce the possibility of bump steer.Since these arms are only available with a taper for the 11/16 tie rod end and the Heim joint, I simply tapered this to fit the 5/8 tie rod ends I had and it worked out fine.

I was worried if this would fit.

The plating severely fills up the tapped threads so much that you have to re-tap each and every hole. All of the threads are fine thread also making this much more difficult.
