Never going back

I used this on a cammed 5.3L with an Edelbrock intake and MSD 6010 timing control (don't judge/it fits the look/because I can!). Throttle body unit installation is very straight forward. It bolts down like a normal carb and is even more compact. The base gaskets and air cleaner gaskets are inclued. My throttle cable and kickdown linkage fit great after moving the linkage adapters from my carb. The unit has (2) 3/8 ports for PCV and brake booster which is very nice and solve a problem for me, also a 3/16 nipple of manifold vacuum which I used for transmission modulator. Wiring is fairly simple. You have connectors for the O2 sensor, coolant sensor, handheld controller, and main harness. I ran the main harness into the cab and picked up my connections there. The only thing I was not crazy about is the connectors and fuse holders are all very bulky and cannot be passed through the firewall since they cannot be removed from the unit. I only had to connect power to the battery, switched 12v power, fuel pump power (no relay needed), and tach signal. There is fan power as well, but I am using my own fan wiring. I welded on my 02 bung, but the saddle they supply would work fine. One major bonus that is the controller gauge function. You have the ability to pick up to four PIDS and display them as gauge outputs. I chose TACH, AFR, BATT, and TEMP.

I probably would buy this again - but maybe ....

I'm adding FI to a 62 TBird. This system is almost completely self contained. There are no other boxes or such to mount somewhere. You do need to install an O2 sensor in the exhaust and a water temp sender in someplace. Installing the water temp sensor was problematic on my car, as the existing temp sender uses a much smaller hole then this unit. When I finally got it together the idle was too fast. The problem turned out to be the generic gaskets that were included for mounting the throttle body - they 'almost' fit and caused a vacuum leak. I have correct ones on order and was hoping that would be the end of the install but it isn't. To be fair, I'm not a mechanic by trade though I have fixed my own cars for almost 60 years. If this was as simple as the promotions want you to believe it would be great, but it's not. I looked at several YouTube videos of this and other brands FI conversions and this is the easiest of them, so be warned installing FI from scratch is a job! Even with the Fuel command Center you have to run a vapor hose back to your gas tank and make up the high pressure hoses from parts included in the kit. Then there is something tricky about the wiring to this also. The car only starts when the ignition wire is connected directly to the battery - I'm suspecting the wires on the fuse panel have some hidden corrosion that is dropping the voltage. This is not FiTech's fault, but it is a stumbling block. I bought this from Speedway because they have always treated me well. Thing is that you have to go to FiTech for tech support and the phone is almost always busy there. That tells me I'm not the only one struggling to get this working.

I have a 91 c1500. I tried to build a performance tbi for my truck with a lot of upgrades including cam, vortec heads, edelbrock intake, etc.. could not find a good tune for my application with extensive datalogging and troubleshooting. Decided to go to fitech self tuning and it has been a world of a difference. Definentlly would recommend for a performance tbi without the head ache finding a good tune, or for the average daily driver.
