Safe And Easy Storage or Transport of Your Gen 3 through Gen 5 LS/LT V8 Engine

GM’s versatile LS family of V8 engines has powered just about every model of GM RWD car and truck (and a few FWD models too!) since 1997. The LS engine has become the swap darling of the performance aftermarket with people shouting, “LS swap the world!” The LS swap movement means that at any given moment there is some project car tucked into a corner of a garage or shop that is currently, or soon, receiving an LS or LT V8 of some sort to power said project. Be it something simple like swapping a 5.3 LS for an SBC in a first gen Camaro or 2nd gen C10 pickup, to perhaps a supercharged LT4 being prepped to power some exotic kit car or replica. Whatever the project plans are that junkyard score or brand new crate engine needs safe and secure storage until your project is ready to accept it.

You see, most enthusiasts like to buy the big decision items like engine, transmission, wheels, brakes, and more way before we really need them. Often a deal pops up and you must act or lose out on the deal. This means we need to store these items until our project is ready for them. While brakes, and even wheels, will fit on a shelf, or can be stored in a spare room still in their boxes (come on, we’ve all done it!) it’s hard to get a used engine or a crate engine to fit on a typical shelf in your shop or garage. Having a proper way to store your LS or LT V8 until you’re ready for it, or a way to transport it if you’re taking it for a rebuild or perhaps dropping it off at your chassis shop so that they can mock up engine mounts for it. Whatever the need, a stout LS engine cradle for storage/transport is a great thing to have.

Designed With Strength in Mind and Built to Last

The GM LS and LT V8 engines may be of aluminum block and heads construction, but a fully dressed engine is still roughly 430 pounds (LS iron block models are even heavier at just over 500 pounds). That’s a lot of weight to trust to a cheaply made offshore LS engine dolly made from paper thin metal. Our BlockDock™ LS engine cart for the LS and LT V8 is made right here in Lincoln, Nebraska from quality 10-gauge 2”x2” tubing and 1/4-inch steel plate bracing that are laser cut, and hand welded in precise welding jigs for repeatable quality control. Our LS engine cradle is not universal in design, requiring adjustment of legs or mounting points. The compact design tucks the stand in for a small overall footprint while maintaining stability. The LT/LS engine cradle has 1/4-inch thick mount pads that bolt directly to the block for rigidity and we even include the correct 10mm mounting bolts (that store directly on the stand’s base in threaded storage holes) to mount the LS engine stand to your LS or LT engine block, saving you the hassle of bolt bin digging for eight of the same metric bolts!

While we’ve focused on GM’s popular LS engine here, the BlockDock™ LS engine dolly will work with all LS and LT GM V8 engine variants, thanks to the mounting plate’s dual motor mount bolt pattern and slotted spacing. So, whether it is an older LS3, LS6, or LQ9 Gen 3 LS, or perhaps you scored a Gen 5 LT4, LT5, or L8T our LT/LS engine cradle stand for GM’s line of Gen3 through Gen 5 V8s is the perfect solution for storage/transport needs and can bolt up to all of them. If you do not have a way to easily move your LS or LT engine you can always add our LS engine stand caster wheel kit for increased ease in maneuverability. We have also created a money saving LS engine cradle with wheels kit with our GM LT/LS engine cradle combined with our caster wheel kit included if you know you’ll be needing caster wheels from the get-go for easier movement around the shop.
