I used to exclusively use Aeroquip fittings and hose on my builds. Great quality, reliable fittings, and strong hose. The latest build required some oddball connections that they don't make, so I started using other manufacturer's fittings. They are all EASIER to assemble than Aeroquip, which are by far the HARDEST to assemble of any fitting I've tried - in some cases by a very large margin. Two things make them harder: (a) the tolerances are extremely tight, and (b) the threads on the nipple are very short. I think it's (b) which really makes them hard to assemble - you have to get the fitting pushed in very deep before any thread engagement helps you complete the assembly. Because of (a), this means you are pushing very hard and trying to thread at the same time. It's not fun. Earls threads (for ex.) are much deeper into the nipple, so you only push a little before the threads start to work in your favor. Assembly is shockingly easier. Keep in mind, this is less of a concern with smaller sizes, but once you get to the -10 and up sizes you really work hard on the assembly. Probably the last time I use Aeroquip; just not worth the hassle.
