Drag racers and muscle car fans have been utilizing GM’s popular four-speed automatic transmission in their builds for decades, and with good reason. Swapping to one of these modern overdrive transmissions provides better economy and lower cruising rpm. Perfect for that long distance road trip. The aftermarket offers all manner of rebuild and performance upgrades for these four-speed overdrive transmissions as well, making their use even more prolific. We have built this universal floor-mount shifter model specifically for these GM overdrives. Our 700R4 floor shifter (which can also be used as a floor shifter for 4L60E and 200R4 transmissions) is provided with a transmission specific cable mounting bracket and linkage. We maintained all the features we originally designed into our first Side Detent Shifter model first released back in 2020, to get you on the road quickly and at a great value!

Built to Take Every Shift 

Our new Side Detent Shifter works with all 700R4/4L60/4L60E/200R4 transmission models. The 4L60 floor shifter assembly is made from steel to take years of abuse and features a robust reverse lockout system to prevent inadvertent shifter movement into reverse during spirited manual shift driving. Positive shift position detents of our 700R4 floor shifter provide feedback confirmation as to what gear position you are in while preventing you from over-running any gear position. We have included both a neutral safety switch and reverse light switch right on the 700R4 shifter body that can be easily wired into stock wiring or any aftermarket wire harness solution. The shifter lever has been crafted with a 7/8-inch center to center spacing using 3/8-16 threaded holes to mount any two-bolt manual or “hot rod” style shift lever of your choice (shift lever and knob not included). The provided five-foot4L60 floor shifter cable allows multiple routing choices to clear exhaust and vehicle crossmembers, while the included cable mounting bracket attaches cleanly to your four-speed overdrive GM transmission, tucking the cable in nice and tight to the transmission for maximum clearances. 

Simple Bolt-On Solution 

Our Side Detent Shifter is the perfect solution for your GM four-speed overdrive transmission-equipped project and mounts solidly to your transmission tunnel with the included hardware. Simply locate the 700R4 floor shifter assembly, noting dash and seating constraints for your shift lever of choice, and drill four 5/16-inch holes to secure the 700R4 shifter assembly in place. An additional 1-inch hole will need to be drilled for shifter cable pass through to route the shifter cable from the 4L60 shifter to the transmission. The included vacuum-formed ABS plastic top cover provides a finished look to the Side Detent Shifter and is easily trimmed to match the contours of your transmission tunnel. A chrome-plated steel trim ring and a stitched black vinyl multi-panel shift boot finishes off the installation for a classic appearance. The top cover can even be fitted under your carpet if you choose so that only the trim ring and shift boot/lever are above the carpet for a near “factory” look.

Makes modifying the factory linkage or fighting with the aftermarket custom bend your own shaft obsolete. The biggest negative I ran into was the Overdrive and drive detent are a little sloppy and can't be adjusted to eliminate it.
