Give Your Lowered C10 The Room It Needs for Safe Axle Movement
The Chevy C10 (and it’s cousin, the GMC C15) has become THE truck to build. From patina’d shop trucks to full on autocross missile, these trucks are more than capable of whatever build plans your head dreams up. All it takes is to make these trucks look and handle great is to get them low, add some suspension bits, better brakes, and sticky tires. If you haven’t considered a C10 truck build just know that you’re missing out on a cool ride that has a ton of potential on the street and the track.
It seems everyone wants to tackle “stance” first on these trucks, and rightfully so. Let’s face it, it IS a truck after all. So, getting a classic C10 pickup truck dropped where it will not only look better, but handle better, is usually a basic job of bolting in some form of lowering spring kit to get the job done. You’ll find lowering springs available in several drop rates, as much as 6-inches or more in the rear to really give your C10 that slammed and level look. However, most rear suspension drops over four inches often result in the rear axle bottoming against the frame rails. This not only provides for poor ride quality, but when the axle housing reaches its suspension limit and hits the frame it can unsettle the vehicle’s driving dynamics, creating a dangerous situation. Therefore, the best way to lower a C10 more than four inches in the rear is by performing an under bed C notch to the frame for axle clearance.
In the past performing a C10 step notch required custom fabrication of the rear frame area, welding in frame support, and more. These crude C notch truck modifications were the only option for many years and were often not done properly. The underbed notch required welding skill and fabrication skill, along with significant down time for the truck itself. Today, a C-notch frame kit makes things easy. You don’t need to know how to C-notch a frame as much as you simply need to know how to follow instructions and use basic hand tools. Yes, we’ve made it that easy for you to C-notch C 10 trucks.
Assembled Using 1/4-inch Steel Plate to Maintain the Strength of Your Frame
We start with high quality 1/4-inch thick steel plate that is precision cut, bent, pre-drilled, and professionally welded to create our ready to bolt in C10 C-notch kit. The finished C-notch plate is designed to fit tight to your C10 truck’s frame rails. This tight fit not only helps with installation but provides additional support for the factory frame rails. The underbed notch plates come finished in gloss black powder coat for great looks and long lasting corrosion protection. Included are 7/16-inch grade 8 bolts and nuts with lock washers for installation of the left and right C-notch frame brackets. Also included are new bump stops that are installed into the top of the C10 step notch.
Installation Uses Basic Hand Tools with No Welding Required
To install an under bed C notch on your C10 using our bolt-in C-notch frame kit is as easy as using a grinder or reciprocating saw, a hand drill, and ratchet or wrenches of the proper size for the installation hardware. You can easily install this C10 C notch with the truck box in place on the frame. There is no need to remove the truck’s bed for access. Simply unbolt your coil spring retainers and lower your axle/truck arms for access. If your coil spring retainers have seen better days, we offer a replacement kit with hardware to keep your project moving forward. Once you’ve determined the proper location for the underbed notch trim away the frame material required and fit the C-notch frame plates over your frame and secure with the included mounting hardware. For those skilled in welding, you do have the option of welding the under bed C-notch plates for greater strength, however it is not a requirement.
