Overall Assessment

Customers appreciate this product for its high-quality and rust-resistant stainless steel material. Its perfect fitting on various tank models, including a 1936 Ford pickup and custom-built ones, has been confirmed. The product's issue with a slippery edge and a sometimes mobile rubber seal has been mitigated by users with home solutions, like adding a thin film of dielectric grease to the seal or roughing up the cap's edge for better grip, leading to recommendations. However, there is a desire for a future iteration with a knurled edge for improved handling.

The flat rubber seal can move around some while tightening the cap, even to the point of rolling off the sealing surface. A simple solution to this problem. Remove rubber seal, add a very thin film of dielectric tune-up grease to the inside surface of the gas cap, reinstall rubber seal...problem solved. Ordering another one as a backup.

It is very hard to grip in a recessed application. The edge needs to be knurled.

Perfectly fitting fuel caps can be a challenge to locate. But with my custom built 16-gal tank, and a little per-planning, Speedway's cap turned out the best choice, hands-down. Tight fit and looks classic. Suggestion: Rough-up or lightly file the edge to help with grip when opening and closing. Surface is a bit slippery.
