Our mechanical brake light switch is "closed" in the at rest position. It breaks the circuit when pushed. Mounts near your brake pedal and the arm can be bent as needed. 42 amp max rating.

Works as designed. It would be better if it had some adjustability in the arm. I had to repeatedly mount & dismount it to bend the arm so the brake light would come on as soon as the brake pedal was applied.

simple instulation and it works

I used this switch on a 1954 ford f100, The insulation was simple, two screws thru the floorboard,lever under the bake pedal, connect two wires and it was finished and worked as it should. I would use this switch to replace any of the 50s pressure switches,

fragile spotweld where arm connects.

My first one lasted about 600 miles before the weld popped but it was inexpensive so, I just replace as needed. If I were to do it again, I'd opt for a line pressure switch.

We apologize but do not have a plug in with pig tails for the mechanical brake switch number 91031306. Customers commonly match it up with the single female connectors and bring power in and out when pedal is moved. Your local electronics or parts store may have a correct plug in with pigtail.

Either bend the arm so it engages sooner or mount it farther from your brake pedal. Mine light u within the 1st inch of pedal travel.

If your brakes are set up correctly your pedal should NOT be able to be pushed all the way to the foor. The mechanical switch has many adjustments by bending the arm. Check the switch hook up with your power to make sure it is set to come on more at the top than at the bottom of the stroke. If you note the polarity it seems to many to be in reverse as far as on and off goes. If you cannot get it to function then a pressure switch would be recommended.

You are correct when it states normally closed the current is going through the switch (“Lights ON”) when the switch is at rest or not activated. Most vehicle manufactures use a normally open switch (“Lights OFF”). When you press on the pedal he switch closes and current is going through the switch (“Lights ON”).

Part number 91031306 is closed at rest which is opposite of some of the OEM switches but not all. The switch is positioned so that when the pedal comes back it hits the arm and breaks the circuit shutting off the brake lights. When the pedal is pushed it allows the switch to go to rest and turns on the brake lights.

the switch is much smaller than I expected. the 1/4" wide bendable arm is 3" long from the center of the housing. the housing is oval shaped 1-1/8" x 1-1/2" x 7/8" thick. the mounting bracket stands 1" tall to center of the housing. feels like a pretty stiff spring return.
