Q & A

What's in the Box

Red Line Oil Assembly Lube is not designed to be the cheapest – it's built to be the best. It has three times greater film-strength than conventional black Molybdenum Disulfide lubricants. Provides excellent rust and corrosion protection. Stays put and supplies a high film strength for protection. Excellent for crankshaft installation. Can be used safely with all metals, including bearings. Can be used with petroleum or synthetic oils.

  • Prepares potential wear surface and prevents metal contact before adequate lubrication can be supplied
  • Will not plug filters after initial engine start-up, unlike other assembly lubes
  • Provides 3x greater film strength than conventional black Molybdenum Disulfide greases
  • Excellent rust and corrosion inhibitor, allows for long-term storage
  • For use on camshafts, lifters, pushrods, piston skirts, main and rod bearings, and bolt threads
  • Do not use on exhaust bolts or other high temperature bolts which require an anti-seize
  • Recommended and used by top camshaft and drivetrain manufacturers

Great assembly lubricant

October 06, 2014
We build a lot of custom engines, and this is the assembly lubricant we have chosen. The engines we generally assemble are the Ford Modular engines. These newer design engines have extremely tight bearing clearances and demand not only a very watchful eye while building, but a tough lubricant that stays put until the engine is fired up. Our bearing clearances are generally 4-5 times tighter then your typical V-8 engine, which presents several problems. The most important is initial lubrication and wear protection until oil pressure is established and maintained. Many engine assembly lubricants, simply do not stay in place long enough to provide protection at start-up. I like to use this when we assemble the main & rod bearing, install the wrist pins, assemble the valve springs, retainers and rockers, plus a few other areas that need attention. This product is not a paste, but it's not a runny liquid. I use a small brush to apply it to the parts, and it stay there very well. The product itself is a synthetic lubricant that seems to give great wear protection and allows for engine assembly, rotation, and movement of parts while assembling the engine, without worry of scuffing the bearings or damaging the finely finished surfaces. While this is not the only assembly lubricant we use, it is the one we use in the most demanding areas. It allows us to coat the surface and know that coating will remain there, until the engine is fired off and running. Great product and will continue to use.

Good Stuff

November 27, 2010
I love this stuff. I have assembled several motors with it. Thick enough to stick and breaks down easily once oil is circulating. Not nearly as messy as the Permatex lube. Price is good. Only gripe is the container. Would be much more efficient if is came in a squeeze tube instead. Also less chance of contamination that way and probably less mess and production costs. Something RedLine should consider.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Red Line 81403 Cam Break-In Oil Lube Additive
(Part #60781403)

A lot has happened over the last year that affects your engine. The biggest is the reduction of zinc in the oils you use. Zinc is a great anti-friction additive but it also gets burned in the combustion chamber and then goes out the tailpipe of your car or truck.

This adds to the pollution problem on street driven cars, but not so much in race engines as they tend to be more efficient and have a better ring package.

Odds are the oil you are using does not have as much zinc in it anymore and you need to add this camshaft break-in additive.

If not, you can wipe out your new cam and lifters in the first 30 seconds of running.  Adding Redline's additive when you assemble your engine and with each oil change will ensure you have enough additives to help keep your engine alive.
