requires lots of labor

December 20, 2015
easy to install but the bump of casting at the top requires additional time to clear the wheel & tire. a second cut at the top would solve a lot of clearance problems.

when using tubular control arms the top control arm you need to grind the spindle so that the ball joint cup does not rest on it when the air bag is fully extended.

Quality product

January 27, 2015
The spindles arrived on time, were in great shape due to the excellent packaging and the way they were protected. The break on the shipping charge was appreciated. The quality of the workmanship was better than expected. I bought a pair a few years ago from another well known supplier and their stuff was junk. Way to go Speedway, for Speedy Bills legacy .
Yes, I recommend this product.

Very easy installation, recommend you get the Stainless brake lines to go with, stock brake lines will work but they are very tight and will rupture.

This product is basically good

August 05, 2014
The spindles are of decent quality and design. But in saying that, I would recommend using Moog K772 ball joint and not an after market ball joint due to the fact that the taper is not as precise as the Moog K772 and travels further into the stud socket which presents a new set of problems. I went through 2 sets before trying Moog which cleared up the problem. Being a machinist by trade I don't think I am talking through my hat.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Works for the Shay Model A!

We bought these to drop the front on a Shay Model A reproduction. They work perfect even with the stock wheels. You will need longer brake lines so don't forget to order those.
Pros:
  • Quality
  • Improves Handling
  • Good Fit
  • Easy To Install

Disappointing Quality

December 25, 2011
If you care at all about how a spindle looks, forget this one. It is the roughest casting I have ever come in contact with - there are ridges and depressions exceeding 3/16" - took 4 hours of grinding to get an acceptable looking spindle ready to paint. The price is right if you don't care about looks - but 90% of the time, if one is buying a 2" drop spindle, one cares about looks. Casting is so rough, it makes me wonder about it's structural integrity. We'll find out how strong it is.
No, I would not recommend this product.

will these work with TCI mustang 2 kit (total cost involved)

Answers

As long as your TCI kit utilizes 74-80 Mustang II spindles then these Speedway dropped spindles should work without any major issues. Depending on what brake kit you are currently running in some cases the caliper bracket and/or spindle may require minor grinding for necessary clearance. The Flex lines to the calipers will also need to be relocated as needed per your application.

These spindles will work fine for you as long as your Fat Man front end uses stock style '74 to '80 Mustang II spindles. In most cases the brake lines need to be relocated. Also some minor grinding for the caliper brackets is required with some brackets.

If you currently have 11” Granada rotors on your Mustang II front suspension the dropped spindles will accept the same hardware. With the dropped spindles the caliper location is in a slightly different plane and your lines may have to be rerouted or changed.

I bought these spindles, but now need to know what ball joints they call for? Does it call for the standard 1974-1980 Pinto upper/lower Balljoint? 1974-1978 Mustang II will work as well, or no? Also, these are front steer spindles, right, or no?

Recommend using Moog K772. A little more pricey, but a far better fit than a after market joint.

Part # 91034304 These spindles will work with the stock 1974-80 Mustang II type ball joints and also with the screw in ball joints number 91034323. If using the aftermarket or screw in style ball joints with tubular control arms you will need to spacer between the spindles and castellated nut to avoid running out of threads and for proper cotter pin alignment.

Part # 91034304 * These spindles fit 1974-1980 Pinto and Bobcat * 1974-1978 Mustang II The factory brake lines may need to be changed to allow necessary clearance and with possible casting variations between the spindles and the caliper brackets some grinding may be required.

In your note there are modifications required using OEM calipers with drop spindle. What modifications are required to the drop spindle and/or the OEM brake caliper? I have this scenario. I can't mount the rotor with the caliper installed. Thanks.

Speedway’s Mustang II dropped spindles retain stock steering geometry and accept all the stock components. Because of casting variations between OEM and other manufacturers there may be the need for some minor grinding to obtain the necessary clearance between the factory or aftermarket “C” brackets and the spindle. Also, the original brake lines will not work correctly and we suggest number 6178565 as the solution. When assembling the brake components the rotors with bearings and seals are installed first and then the caliper and pads.

"THE OEM PINTO OR MUSTANG II BRAKE LINES WILL INTERFERE WITH THIS SPINDLE. AN AFTER MARKET BRAKE LINE IS REQUIRED. WE SUGGEST 6178565 WHEN USING STOCK MUSTANG II/PINTO CALIPERS. IF USING OEM CALIPER BRACKETS, SLIGHT MODIFICATION OF THE SPINDLE AND/OR THE BRACKET IS REQUIRED. (ADDITIONAL CLEARANCE BETWEENT THE SPINDLE AND CALIPER BRACKET IS REQUIRED.)

I already have tubular a arms and braided brake lines. I have Grenada rotors. What fitting at the caliper will I need? Angle, banjo? My lines are already longer than really necessary. I have limited time in the shop so I need this to be a one day deal, not a week long lay-up waiting for brake lines.

Brake line kit number 6178565 will work if you have the OEM calipers with the C brackets. Some clearancing may also be required for full turn radius and fit of the caliper and bracket to the dropped spindle.
