Q & A

What's in the Box

This automatic shut-off switch shuts off the ignition or an electric fuel pump when pressure drops below 12 psi. Prevents engine damage, helps prevent fires, and keeps the motor from starting until oil-pressure rises. Should be used with a momentary bypass switch (913-64381).

Good Quality Product

Nothing super high tech about this. I have used this longacre switch in the past and experienced good performance and reliability. I used it as a fuel pump switch on my Roadster project. If you are using this as the switch for your fuel pumps main power source don't overlook the suggestion for a momentary switch to prime the system when needed.
Pros:
  • Good Quality
Cons:
  • None
Yes, I recommend this product.

Safety first

I used this pressure switch to create a protection loop to shut off my electric fuel pump if the oil pressure drops. I installed a T where the gauge sensor unit was threaded into the block and two street 90's to create two ports facing out and up. Both work perfect installed that way. 12 volts from the fuse block feeds the pressure switch and then to a SPDT 30 amp relay to send voltage to the pump when the starter solenoid is activated with the key. The pump is the common terminal, NC is the pressure switch feed NO is the solenoid feed. The solenoid activation feed from the key triggers the relay.
Yes, I recommend this product.

Excellent safety device, must have for f

Generally any non stock electric pump will come with a warning to use a oil pressure cut off switch with there pump. It just makes sense! If your car is warming up sitting in the driveway and the carb float starts to get stuck that electric pump keeps pumping as long as that gas has an outlet, the stuck float. Even if the engine stalls depending on how the pump is wired, like thru its own on off switch, that pump can still keep on pumping , filling the engine compartment with gas and fumes until, Bang! There goes your pride and joy and anything else around that burns!! I'm talking from very sad experience! Don't let your car idle without supervision and use this switch to turn off your electric fuel when that oil pressure drops! PS it can be mounted on a brass "Y" fitting shared with your oil pressure Sending unit with real easy wiring.
Pros:
  • life saver
Yes, I recommend this product.

There are items that we spend $ on that we hope that we NEVER need. Seat belts, helmets, insurance and these safety switches hopefully fall into that category. Its hard to prove a negative so hopefully I'll never have to prove that this works. Just glad to have it watching out for me.
Pros:
  • like another set of eyes on your oil pressure
Yes, I recommend this product.

depends what you want to do. If you are using it to light a light you send voltage to it and then to the light. it switches on when there is 12 lbs of oil pressure. If you are using it as a shut off protection for a fuel pump if the motor shuts off then you run the voltage to it before you connect it to the pump.

This is a normally open switch. As such, when there is no oil pressure there will be no continuity between the posts of the switch. When oil pressure rises above 12 psi the circuit will be completed and there will be continuity between the posts. You could think of it as a toggle switch that is off when there is no oil pressure, then when oil pressure rises above 12 psi it will automatically turn on.
