will a t5 gm fit to a 49 53 flathead with this adapter

The answer is NO. The correct adaptor would be part number: 5605173 ($277.99). This adaptor fits the stock Ford manual transmission bellhousing, the GM trans bolts to the adaptor. The usual deal here would be to use the Ford pressure assembly with a disc that fits the GM trans. You would also use the Ford release fork and the Ford release bearing. The only problem: The I.D. of the Ford bearing is a little sloppy on the Chevy front bearing retainer. You may have to devise a “sleeve” to improve the fit of the release bearing.

Part number 5605173 This adapter is commonly used for Ford and Merc transmissions but with some dimension comparison you can verify fit with your pickup transmission to the adapter bolts pattern. Bellhousing Bolt Hole Dimensions: * Top hole width = 5-5/16" center to center * Bottom bolt hole width = 6-3/8" center to center * Bolt hole spacing top to bottom = 7-5/16" Transmission Mount Bolt Hole Dimensions: * Top hole width = 8-9/32" * Bottom hole width = 9-3/16" * Bolt hole spacing top to bottom = 4-7/8" Bellhousing Collar Size: * 4.686" outside diameter * 4.346" inside diameter * .175" deep Transmission collar is 4.675" diameter Clutch used and pilot bearing would be another area to research for adaptability.
