The third generation Chevy inline 6 cylinder started in 1962, replacing the tried and true 235. The first units were built in 194 and 230 cubic inch displacements and even had a 4 cylinder little brother that was used in the Chevy II. In 1966, these engines were enlarged to yield 250 cubic inches.
These double-tough power plants have seen duty in everything from passenger cars, pickup trucks, heavy duty trucks, irrigation wells and other industrial applications. Durable and powerful, the 250 Chevy inline 6 can be made a capable performance engine. Numerous NHRA drag races have been won by the 250 Chevy 6. With a pedigree such as it has, it makes no sense to not upgrade to some 250 Chevy 6 inline performance parts from Speedway Motors.
One of the greatest things Chevrolet did when it designed the 250 and it’s cousins the 194, 230 and 292, is the fact that these engines share a common bell housing with the small block and big block V-8. This means Chevy inline 6 performance is easily put a T-56 6 speed or TKX five speed, or an old Muncie four speed for that matter. Chevy inline 250 6 performance upgrades are readily available. The Chevy 250 inline 6 responds to things like performance camshafts from Comp Cams or headers from Flowtech just like it’s big brother V-8s do. That’s not all that can be had in Chevy 250 inline 6 performance parts, oh no, there is much more. Offenhauser four barrel intakes, chrome valve covers, aluminum valve covers, MSD electronic distributors, Speedway Motors water pumps, Comp Cams valvetrain goodies and starters and alternators from Powermaster are some of the items that can be had for your 250 inline 6 engine.
Why go to the trouble of building a Chevy inline 6 performance engine when you could have a V-8? Well, there are a variety of reasons. Let’s face it, seeing small block after small block under the hood gets boring. Same goes for LS engines. You want something different? You want the challenge of modifying something that not everybody else has? Well, those are really good reasons to get clicking on some Chevy inline 6 performance parts from Speedway Motors.
A quick word to the wise when shopping for parts for your 250: 1975-1984 had what was called an “integrated” head for the 250. This cylinder head had the intake manifold cast onto it. So, if you are looking at that bolt on 4 barrel intake, you will need to source an earlier, non integral head first. The 250 Chevy inline 6 production ceased in American cars and trucks in 1988. If you want the ultimate inline 6 Chevy power, how about getting the 250 Chevy’s big brother, the 292? The 292 uses many of the very same 250 Chevy inline 6 performance parts, so if you can find a 292, you are already ahead of the game!
Remember the keywords when it comes to buying Chevy inline 6 performance parts. Those words are durable, interchangeable, beautiful and powerful. When you finish with your 250 Chevy inline 6 project, it’s going to be something you can be proud of! So consider Chevy 250 Inline 6 Performance Parts from Speedway Motors!
