I picked this item up on speculation. It works like a three jaw Jacobs drill chuck, but with more contact area. What I like about this tool is that it only loads in shear (twisting), I did a test run on an exhaust manifold and tightened it enough to load it up, but not enough to break the stud. When I removed the tool and examined the threads, they were undamaged; a major plus if you wish to reuse the stud like say the ones used to mount a carburetor to intake manifold where you aren't expecting them to shear off.

Works like a charm!

This extractor removed the 43 year old 8mm head studs from my '77 Suzuki RM370B cylinder without a hitch or a single mark on the studs.

Might work for larger studs but no success with a 1/4"

The stud extractor is advertised to remove studs 1/4" (even 6mm is mentioned!) and above but it failed badly on my 1/4 inch. Already tightened to its limit the tool was still turning around the stud without providing a firm enough grip. I imagine it would work for larger studs as it seems solidly built and receives generally good reviews but if your stud size is on the lower end of the range you might want to look for a different tool.

Would order again if lost ... Without any doubt...

Very mechanic should have one in his tool box ... Use this tool once and you will see why ....
