Easy install for 9" Ford rearend
I needed to add an E-brake to my T-bucket. This kit was designed for a 9" Ford rear but I have an early 60's Olds rear with a front drop-in third member. With some time and thought, I was able to fabricate an adapter plate to make this work for my aplication.

Good in theory, had to be modified
U joint girdles do not fit properly had to take them to a machine shop to have them modified to fit correctly. This should not be ness. on a kit you pay almost $300 dollars for. Also girdle bolts are too short as everyone else is complaining of this also. Should be 3/8 of a inch longer. Other than that once the direct fit, kit that it is not, is modified it installs properly. $75 at a machine shop to make it fit correctly. That is something that should not happen.

Works well. Had to reclock the mounting bracket and space the disc to the rear on the pinion drive flange to make it fit. You sent the wrong cable the first time but the correct cable is excellent. I'm using the hand brake lever from a pinto instead of the stock foot operated lever.

Now that it is installed, I am tempted to give it 5 stars, but a major step was omitted from the illustrated instructions, which were otherwise excellent. It is necessary to back off the adjustment prior to installation, and if you don't do it you will need to remove the entire assembly and reinstall it after you thought you were almost done. You could also end up with some parts on your garage floor if you attempt to skip this step. A novice could install this if s/he adds this simple step.

This installs very easy, and is easily adjusted. The bolts are only 2 inches long, I replaced them with 2&1/2 inch bolts. I also modified the cable and used the trans mounted handle.. If your not mechanically inclined, use the floor mount that's made for it..

Cable for this is a bit long, I made some adjustments and used the, Trans mount brake handle. This just cleans up the rear area, better than having those emergency brake cable hanging around..

The overall design of the unit is well thought out and will provide years of reliable service, but there are a few details you should consider when bolting this unit up to your 9" Ford rear. 1. The replacement bolts that go into the pinion support housing should be 3/8 to 1/2 longer then what is provided. There is the chance, depending on the HP your vehicle is pushing, that the bolts not being threaded far enough into the housing could pull out. 2. Depending on your yoke style, since Ford had several throughout the years, the disc mounting surface may need to be machined down to keep the disc run out to a minimum. The first attempt had the run out at .045. After we had the surface machined flat, the run out was held to .004 which will hold the disc wobble down to nothing. Also the U-Joint mounting surface had to be machined to get the proper cap clearance. Again, these were just observations we took notice to and suggest you look for the same thing when you install this product. I still give it a 5 star rating based on design and funtion. It just needed to be tweeked a little. A great idea for running rear disc brake system and still have a good parking brake.
