G-Comp components are not only engineered to outperform the factory parts; they’re also engineered with ease-of-installation in mind. No special tools are required to install G-Comp suspensions – just your ambition, a set of jack stands and a basic set of hand tools. All of the engineering, fabrication and welding has been completed for you.

The Speedway Motors G-Comp IFS is a bolt-in replacement for the OEM front sub-frame. The kit will work with all 1962-1967 Chevy II Novas. The G-Comp system utilizes specially designed spindles and control arms, mated to a custom sub-frame to provide enhanced performance on both the street and track.

 

Here’s a basic rundown of what’s involved in installing the G-Comp Nova front suspension:

  1. Support the car on jack stands, disconnect all the electric and plumbing from the firewall forward, and then remove the hood, fenders, grille, bumper, radiator, and core support.
  2. Remove the engine, transmission, and OEM steering column. 
  3. Unbolt the sub-frame (with inner fenders attached) from the firewall and roll it away from the front of the car. 
  4. Move the G-Comp sub-frame up into position, lining up the holes in the new sub-frame with the holes in the firewall and bolt it on using the included Grade 5 hardware.
  5. Assemble the new G-comp support tubes, rack and pinion, control arms, coil-over shocks, spindles, steering arms, tie rods, and sway bar assembly, and disc brake kit. New hardware is included with the kit.
  6. Reinstall the engine and transmission along with the optional Dynatech headers specifically made for this application. The original drivetrain in the ‘62-‘67 Chevy II was offset ½” to the passenger side. On this sub-frame the drive train is centered, so you will need to use a centered transmission crossmember, or you can easily modify your OEM transmission crossmember to remedy this issue.
  7. Set the car to the desired ride height by adjusting the nut on the coil-over shocks. Next, adjust the sway bar, caster, camber, and toe-in to the recommended settings included in the instruction manual. The caster adjustments are made by changing the caster inserts. The caster inserts are identified with numbers indicating the distance of the hole from the center of the insert in 1/8” increments. The inserts can be reversed to move the hole in front or behind center for a total adjustment range of ¾”. The camber is adjusted using A-arm shim plates (Speedway part # 917-21005) which are available in thicknesses ranging from 1/8” to ½”.
  8. Source an aftermarket steering column, steering shaft, and two steering U-joints to complete the steering system. All of these components are available from Speedway Motors separately.
  9. Reinstall the front sheetmetal, wiring, plumbing, and exhaust. Now, all that’s left is taking your newly upgraded Chevy II out to carve up some corners.
