In 2014, America’s Oldest Speed Shop returned to its competitive racing roots by sponsoring Team Speedway. With Goodguys AutoCross and SCCA events as testing grounds, Team Speedway drivers Robby Unser and Al Unser Jr. have pushed the ’70 Camaro and ’65 Nova test cars to incredible limits, slamming through courses with 1.7g lateral loading and intense braking, plus acceleration that only a 750hp engine can provide. If G-Comp components can handle this type of punishment, you can be sure they’ll be reliable for whatever automotive activity you have planned!
Both Unsers hail from one of America’s most storied racing families. Al Unser Jr. followed his family into Indy Racing and won the Indianapolis 500 in 1992 and in 1994, in addition to being a two-time overall points champion. Al Jr. has been hailed as one of the most dynamic and successful drivers in American auto racing. Robby Unser – who is cousin to Al Jr. – began racing go-karts at age 8, and by his teens was racing stock cars, sprint cars, and Formula Fords. In 1989, Robby won the American IndyCar Series title driving a car campaigned by Speedway Motors’ Carson and Jason Smith. Robby has won the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb an unprecedented nine times in a wide range of classes.
Having both Robby and Al Jr. on the same track invokes the excitement their famous fathers brought to Indy decades ago with many Unser vs. Unser competitions. This is a family rivalry you won’t want to miss when it comes to a Goodguys event near you!
