The lower retainers installed fine on my 66 Impala. My car came with heavy duty coil springs too. Only had to open up the trailing arm 7/16 through bolt hole and plate bolt hole to 1/2". Supplied hardware is too short though, instead had to use 2 1/2 inch long grade 8 bolts. 3 inch would make the job even easier but it would be hard to find ones without shanks I think.
