What's in the Box

Finally a bolt-on power rack and pinion for 1955-57 Chevy cars. Simply remove the original steering box, idler arm and tie rod assembly and bolt this unit back in using the original mounting holes. Includes tie rod ends, special steering arms, and a pair of banjo fittings to adapt to AN6 fluid lines. Can be used with most GM steering pumps.

  1. This item must be used with OEM style spindles. It WILL NOT work with dropped spindles.
  2. Designed for use with S/B Chevy 265-400 c.i. V-8.
  3. Must use chassis headers and a stock type pan sump for clearance.
  4. Steering U-joint 910-32255 is required (17mm).

910-32246 Instructions (PDF)

Notes

  1. Our headers 930-C5 and 930-C5H will work with a Small Block and this rack and pinion steering. Our tight-fit headers and manifolds WILL NOT work.
  2. If using this rack & pinion kit with a big block (396-502 c.i.), you will need to use a C-notched oil pan, and special headers will be needed from TRI-5 R&D at phone (253) 278-7475.

WARNING:This item must be used with OEM style spindles. It will ((NOT)) work with dropped spindles. Our headers 930C5/930C5H will work with a small block and this rack & pinion steering. Our tight-fit headers and Tru-ram manifolds will ((NOT)) work. If the customer wishes to use a Chevy big-block, they will need to use a C-notched oil pan, and they may wish to purchase special headers from TRI-5 R&D at (253)-278-7475. This rack requires a 17MM U-joint, such as our p/n 910-32255. The rack kit includes special steering arms and a pair of banjo fittings to adapt to AN6 fluid lines. For the oil pan the standard stock dimension Small Block pan works fine.

This kit comes pre packaged from the manufacturer and the option of individual components is not available. You may want to consult with Unisteer/Maval for a right hand drive kit. Being the largest rack and pinion kit supplier they may be of assistance.

Instructions state that it will not work with dropped spindles. I have 2-inch dropped spindles, but the spindles are modular, with the original steering arm knuckles arms bolted to the spindle. What clearance problems would I have with this kit?

If the steering arms on your dropped spindles remain in the same height then you would be o.k. If the steering arms go up along with the snout of the spindle the tie rods on the rack and pinion would be pointing up which creates bump steer and incorrect steering geometry.
