Wiring Harnesses for a 1929 Ford
In this Tech Tip, a returning customer asks for advice on wiring harnesses for his ’29 Ford roadster project.
“I am building a 29 Ford roadster. I have built a custom chassis, and am powering it with a small block Chevy engine. The transmission is a 700R4 out of a ‘80s Camaro Berlinetti. I am looking for a wiring harness that includes the circuit for the 700R4 transmission. At this point I am looking at using the steering column out of the same Camaro. I also pulled the engine harness from the same Camaro. I will need the chassis lighting, horn and accessories harnesses, ect. with it. If you could help me find a suitable Painless (or other brand) wiring harness that will suit my needs, it will be appreciated.”
Hi, you inquired about a wiring harness for your Model A and if you are running a simple system our 12 circuit harness should cover your needs. That can be found on our under part number 91064017. If you are running A/C, cruise, power windows, power locks, etc. then you may need more such as our 22 circuit kit, which is part number 91064022. Either will connect to the GM steering column via the flat ribbon plug, and you will need to locate the wires appropriately. If you prefer the Painless brand part number 91064029 has 21 circuits, of which 12 are fused. Another option is part number 91064030, which has 28 circuits, 18 of which are fused. The transmission wiring should be obtained from the donor car; however we do offer part number 91064038 (a Torque Converter Lock-Up kit), for use in transplant applications such as your Model A.
