What's in the Box

Info

Speedway pull type slave cylinder with 7/8" bore for clutch use. Works great with stock-style hydraulic throwout bearings or Ram Couplers. Has a 3/8"-24 inverted flare female inlet. Bleeder adapter and bleeder are included.

  • Ram shaft is 3/8" O.D.
  • Cylinder body is 4.09" long
  • Cylinder body is 1-7/16" O.D. at end by fittings
  • Cylinder body is 1-3/8" at opposite end of fittings

A 5/16” heim will fit both ends of cylinder (not included). Our heim part number is 1750202.

Note: For most multi-disc clutch set-ups we recommend the use of a smaller 3/4" bore master cylinder.

Pull type slave

May 11, 2016
I used this pull type slave on a TR3650 manual transmission I fitted into a Crown Victoria. Excellent replacement for the cable pull that comes equipped in most mustangs. The pedal feel is so much smoother and pressure is significantly less. It does require you to add your own threaded extensions for mounting to this particular transmission which is still a breeze. Has excellent throw range when used with 3/4" bore master cylinder or larger. This was used on a completely custom build and the pricing compared to similar slaves was very budget oriented for a better looking slave cylinder. Fantastic looking metal body with sturdy construction. I have approximately 300 miles on the slave so far and no issues even with hard fast shifts.
Pros:
  • Nice Finish And Color
  • Fairly Universal
Cons:
  • None
Yes, I recommend this product.

You mentioned this product "Works great with stock-style hydraulic throwout bearings". How so? Can this product act as a master cylinder to a hydraulic throwout bearing, or is this meant to work in some other way with a hydraulic throwout bearing?

It would be more correct to say "Works great with stock style throwout bearings to convert to a hydraulic system." No this cannot be used as a master cylinder. Sorry for the confusion.

The Speedway slave cylinder you mention should work very well for your application. The 91025604 cylinder has 7/8” of travel (as opposed to the 8352601333, which has 1.375” of stroke), so be sure to use the “short” style of lever on the clutch release shaft of your VW transaxle and a master cylinder of ¾” to 7/8” bore. The 70174-750 or 835260103-750 would be good candidates.

A slave cylinder such as number 91025604 requires the appropriate size master cylinder to achieve full stroke. On a single disc clutch a 7/8 bore and on a multi disc race clutch a ¾” bore master will fill the needs. Use with hand controls is possible as long as the necessary leverage factor ratio is achieved. On a pedal assembly a 6.5 to 1 ratio is normally used and on hand controls the ratio would need to be increased to meet your needs. This is computed by two measurements. One from pivot point to where the pushrod of the master connects divided into the distance from the same pivot point to the end where it will be operated.

if using this and a master cylinder thats level with it in the frame, would you need to use a RPV valve like you would in a brake system? And if so which RPV would you need to use 2 or 10?

If your master cylinder is lower than or even level with the slave or hydraulic throw out bearing a residual valve would be a good investment. 2 psi would be all that was required such as part number 91031345.

I use a 7/8 with a 6:1 pedal ratio. Nice easy clutch feel. Try to get the pull at a right angle to the fork. Not at a crazy angle. They recomend a 7/8 master. Works well.

Jason
For a stock clutch we recommend a 7/8" master cylinder

Pull type slave cylinders are used on many different applications but do NOT come with any mount tabs or brackets. This would be up to the customer to fabricate as needed for their particular application.

Purchased this slave cylinder & clutch hose # 106-40280, do you sell the adaptor fitting to connect that hose to the slave cylinder? And does it matter which end of the hose is attached to the slave cylinder as one end of the clutch hose has a 90 degree fitting on it? Thanks.

The adapter included with the hose 10640280 will screw into this slave cylinder and allow you to connect the straight end of the hose. Or you can screw the 90 degree end of the hose directly into this slave cylinder. Typically the 90 degree end is used at the master cylinder when using a master cylinder such as 8352601304
