Q & A

What's in the Box

Leave it to Speedway Motors to offer you a professional quality aluminum racing radiator at an affordable price. This double pass radiator works well for oval track racing applications where maximum efficiency is needed. The double pass design offers a 5 to 20 degree coolant temperature drop versus a standard, single pass radiator with equal core size.

This double pass radiator features 100% all-aluminum construction. The furnace-brazed core increases durability compared to other radiators with epoxy-glued or crimped-gasket sealing methods. Two rows of 1 inch aluminum tubes allows this radiator to out cool  a similarly sized radiator with five rows of copper tubes. A rugged billet aluminum filler neck with screw-in bleed is also included.

This radiator is designed for Chevy applications with both water necks on the passenger side. The upper inlet measures 1-1/2 inches outside diameter and the lower outlet measures 1-3/4 inches outside diameter. The radiator is available in 22", 24", 26", 28", or 31" widths, including the end tanks. All sizes are 19 inches tall.

  • All-aluminum, furnace-brazed construction
  • No epoxy, glue or crimped in gaskets
  • Maximum amount of fins per inch allows greater heat transfer
  • Two rows of 1" aluminum tubes (out cools five rows of copper)
  • Billet aluminum filler neck
  • Available in 22", 24", 26", 28", or 31" width (measurements include tanks)

Cheap

February 23, 2015
I ended up buying two of these , only because I had already made the mounts for it, the first one leaked in two different spots, one around the lower hose area, and bottom right small tubes I would not have bought it again but I spent some time building the mounts in the vehicle
No, I would not recommend this product.

Best raditor I've bought ever!!

August 20, 2014
Got this raditor for my 1980 Z28 with a 383 running propane and combined it with a 1996 thunderbird cooling fan and a 70 amp relay from speedway and I got the car to idle at 155 degrees and when cruising runs around 165-170, very pleased with this would put this on any of my hot rods!
Yes, I recommend this product.

Great Product @ a great price

January 25, 2014
while I must say I haven't yet put the radiator I bought to use as it's for my project car,i don't believe I could have made a better choice. When I read other reviews and compared what I read to other radiator options I've shopped for I felt I had got extremely lucky because of quality & price.Plus I received a great price on shipping. This radiator offers both tne inlet/outlet options I had been shopping for and with crossflow cooling.I'm anxious for the completion of the car so I can put it to use!
Yes, I recommend this product.

Great Radiator!

March 10, 2013
I just squeezed this 19"x31" in my little LS V8 S10 Blazer. Having the double pass with both water necks on the passenger side, made hose's easy to connect. The size of this mammoth unit, made a little tricky to install. But I'm happy with how cools. Built my own fan shroud w/10" fans. Dose the job! This 5.3 V8 with the Procharger doesn't even sweat it!! . With the quality of construction and great price I couldn't picked a better choice. Thanks Speedway! Justin E. Derby, KS

In racing applications we commonly use a 28 to 32 psi radiator cap such as 91015707 or 91015628. You can certainly run a lower pressure cap if your application doesn't require a 32 psi cap.

There is a small flange at the top and bottom that is approximately 1/2" tall which can be used to mount the radiator. You may also be interested in one of our mounting kits which is part number 91734700.

bottom outlet I need a 22 inch wide...which way does the bottom outlet point? It does look like it is mounted at an angle, from the pics. If it is straight and pointed to the water pump outlet it won't work on my truck. If it is straight and pointed down, it will work.

If your talking about temp wise my race car went from 220+ degrees after a race with a single pass radiator to 190 - 200 degrees after a race with a double pass radiator

Jason
There maybe a 5-10 degree change but this will depend on application. Is standard radiator working at or beyond its peak? Engine temperatures are often dictated more by fuel/ignition systems than by cooling system. Also water pumps are as key in a cooling system as a radiator.

Thanks for your inquiry into our products, there is a variety of fin counts but generally they range from 11-18 per inch. The lower hose is angled but I cant tell you if it is exactly the same as Afco but it will be similar.

(Part #10680127NDP)

AFCO Double Pass provide more cooling over standard type radiators, with less than 2 oz. of added weight.  Common temperature drops are 10-20 degrees when replacing a standard configuration radiator of equal core size.  Keeps your mind off the water temp and puts it onto the race track.

Double pass radiators gain their efficiency by first passing the fluid over the top half of the radiator and then the bottom half, giving the radiator the ability to dissipate heat twice.

AFCO uses an exclusive 360 degree TIG-welded baffle that splits the radiator core into two sections. This 360 degree baffle effectively creates two radiators out of one and assures that you won't have any coolant that has entered the radiator but never made it across the core. This is superior to utilizing silicone to seal internal baffles, or worse, a partial weld that allows the coolant to bypass the radiator core completely.

360 Degree Welded - Internal baffle ensures no "short cuts" past the baffle due to internal leaks.
