Q & A

What's in the Box

With their exciting, racy styling, Track T roadsters are some of the most recognizeable hot rods in American automotive history. Designed for nostalgic originality, Speedway’s Track-T Roadster is an economical way to relive that vintage motoring spirit. This kit car turns heads wherever it goes with its beautiful, one-piece 1927 T body, smooth lines and custom track style nose.  The Track-T is designed to use the powertrain from 4-cylinder or V6 powered rear wheel drive vehicles.  In such a small, lightweight car they become mighty spirited performers.

The 1927 Track-T basic kit includes a 1927 Model T Roadster body with right and left full length side frame covers and custom floor with transmission tunnel.  It also comes with a passenger compartment rear bulkhead divider, street rodder nose, rear roll pan, smooth flat cowl/firewall and front shock mounts.  Headlight mounts, hood top, and aluminum hood sides are also included. The storage compartment behind the seat is even large enough to accept 2-3 suitcases, or a large cooler & picnic basket.

The rigid tube steel chassis features front & rear kick-ups for a lower ride height and includes pre-mounted suspension bracketry. The chassis is built to accomodate a traditional spring-over, tube axle front suspension with Hairpin radius rods, Vega cross steering, and '49-'54 Chevy spindles. Rear suspension mounts will attach a solid axle to quarter elliptic springs with upper torque arms, Panhard bar, and tube shocks.

This product is made to order so quantities may vary. Please allow three to four weeks lead time.

Notes

  1. We reccommend using a Ford 2300cc four, or for more power, go with a Chevy 60-Degree V-6. Many speed parts are available for both engines. In addition, an auto trans is much easier to use due to the limited amount of floor space for foot pedals.
  2. For more detailed build information, please refer to Track-T Assembly Manual 973-86127.  This detailed assembly manual will aid both novice street rodders as well as the expert car builder. Supplemental illustrations provided in this manual will make assembly of the Track-T much easier.

On the Track T kit it is up to the builder to fiberglass in the floor and transmission tunnel which does require cutting of the firewall and the necessary fiberglass work. The 2.8 V6 or 4 cylinder will work without modification to the firewall.

There is considerable space behind the seat for luggage, etc. that could be used for increased gas tank size if it a necessity. This would be at the builders discretion as it would eliminate some of the storage area. With the weight of the vehicle these do fairly well on mileage. With the ride characteristics of these cars the occasional stops are normally appreciated.

could '27 T radiator cover be used instead of track nose with the hood & sides I'm considering ordering the Track T kit soon., but need to know can the traditional T style radiator shell be used instead of the track style nose and still be able to use the hood and sides that come with the kit

The Track T nose is smaller than the standard T radiator shell and the hood would not match up without extensive widening at the front. Sorry we do not offer a standard T style grille shell to fit the Track T.

No a straight 6 would be much too long to fit into the engine bay. A 4 cylinder or V6 is all that will fit without extensive modification.

To complete a rolling chassis this kit does not include as mentioned the tires and wheels. But also you will need the front end steering and brake kit number 97339962, a rear end assembly or our 9” rear housing number 91045100, rear end mount kit number 97349927, front hub and brake kit number 97331933, and miscellaneous hardware. You would still need a drive line and rear end third member along with lights, exhaust, and an abundance of time. We suggest ordering the assembly manual to see if your abilities will cover the glass work and other areas.

We apologize but an inline six of any make would not fit in the Track T. The 4 cylinder 2.2 is about the longest that will clear or the 2.8 V6. It would require lengthening the frame, side skirts, Hood, etc.

The Speedway Track T works with an inline 4 cylinder or the early rear wheel drive V6. In order to fit an inline 6 cylinder the frame, body side panels, hood sides, and hood top would need to be lengthened.

Would an alternative suspension be available? Would other suspension systems fit this kit besides the natural finish front kit no. 97339927 or chromed kit no. 97339962; for example the deluxe suspension used on the deluxe 1927 frame kit no. 7151600?

Sorry the suspension kit for the Track T is specific to it and only comes in the plain or chrome part numbers you mentioned. You would have to weld different brackets on the frame and custom fit any other suspension to it.
