Q & A

What's in the Box

If you are building a hot rod just a little bit different than the next guy, you will probably need a special length tie rod or drag link sleeve. We stock many common and uncommon lengths. Measurements are in assembled eye-to-eye lengths.

To order:

  1. Use guide below to measure your finished length.
  2. The part number and length you order will be 3-1/2" longer than the sleeve you receive. (I.E., if you order a 48" part number, you will receive a 44-1/2" long sleeve.) This is the difference in length required to give you the correct finished center-to-center measurement.
  3. All sleeves will have internal RH thread in one end and LH thread in the other.

excellent product

I needed 50" tie rod. Ordered longer one and cut one end. Rethreaded with their tap which I already had-which is also a great product, there was even enough thread left to start the tap. use thread oil, makes a big difference! Clamp in your vice horizontally with a shop rag. didn't hurt that nice paint.
Yes, I recommend this product.

you could slice it, but why? The threads are perfect right now, and you'll mangle them.

Yes you could cut a slot to use a pinch style clamp instead of a jam nut. Keep in mind that this tubing may be larger OD than some stock tubes are. This tubing is .875" OD.

Do you have a 22 inch tie rod.

Sorry this is not offered in a 22" length. We can build a custom length for you if needed. For a custom length use part number 91634-999 and specify your eye to eye length.

dropped tie rods how do I measure tie rod length My 49 ford f-1 needs dropped tie rod ends so I don't think I can measure eye to eye for the length of the tie rod, do I moc. up and measure cntr. to cntr.of threads?

Measure it center to center on the holes. The modern style tie rod ends give you 1 1/2" of drop so you might be fine.

speedway really needs the hole center-to-center distance so that they give you the correct length rod that will allow in & out adjustment for the tie-rod ends. put a long bolt in your mounting holes until you can get a straight shot at the distance between both sides.

If you can mock it up like mentioned and measure center to center of the threads for the tube length we can go off of that to get you just the tube. These tubes are sold as the eye to eye length minus 3” for tube length.

Do the threads run the full length of the tube; so a person could trim to an odd size.!?

The threads are extra deep, but not full length. I think you could safely cut off 1/2 from each end.

No these are not threaded the entire length. We thread them as deep as we can with a tap. You should be able to cut 1/2" off of each end without re-threading. If you need to cut it significantly shorter I would cut the side that has right hand threads, then tap new threads in that end. We do offer taps if needed.

what is the OD of the rod, what are the tread sizes, 18 inch length?
