In 1952, BMC offered a pedal car series originally dubbed the Sportster. An oval shaped, open grille gave these cars the nickname Fish Mouth.
The Sedan Fish Mouth cars were offered in many variations including a Fire Chief's car, Police car with light, a Sportster car, and the Blue Streak.
Fish Mouth models with an extended platform were a Hook and Ladder with bell, ladders and racks, a Station Wagon, and a Dump Truck with working box.
In 1954, after the AMF Company purchased BMC, an embossed rear continental kit and front end styling modification gave us what most referred to as the AMF Star Grille.
A Highway Patrol car, with flashing light and siren, a Sky Lark and a Pacesetter were a few of the models offered. The addition of an extended rear platform produced a Hook and Ladder Pumper with hose, bell, ladders and racks. A Dump Truck with a working, hydraulic dump box was another popular AMF Star Grille. The only changes made during the rest of the long production run were to paint and graphics. Many of these cars are around today.
These cars were offered with many different graphics painted on the sides. The background colors accurately depict original paint color schemes from AMF/BMC.
